ill give more info, I need it mainly for studio project recording, i need to record clean voices with not to much "color" on it, so preamp would be good idea.
i dont need any Neve, Telefunken, Siemens for this job(well i need but not this time
)...i need somthing good for clean recording.
so what do you think would be the best choice around 1k?
Thanks

Why tube?
For around $1000, I'd be inclined toward something like the Chandler Germanium ($1050 at Atlas Pro Audio).

dropped out of the commercial product game a few years back and started DIYing. for 1k you could get about 4 channels of high end tube pre, better than pretty much anyone is selling commercially at the moment.SideWalker wrote:so what do you think would be the best choice around 1k?
for about measly 400 you could get the best damn clean solid state 2 channel preamp there is, and you'd even have a choice from anything between api, neve or jensen.
yes, there really is that much air in commercial pricing.

Kinson can you elaborate a bit more. I have been thinking about a tube pre and DIY sounds good to me. Pretty handy with a soldering iron .

there's a super informative forum here http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/index.php
They're friendly, know what they're doing and share a great DIY ethic.
let the good folks there know what exactly it is you're looking for and specify things a bit, and I'm 100% you'll be guided to a great sounding (and probably even easy) project to start with.
preamps, compressors, equalisers, mixers, guitar gadgets, tube or solid-state and plenty of hybrids - and most of it head over heels above commercial stuff (because you get to customise it to perfection). You'll feel right at home.

The pres that I would shortlist are :-
TUBE - SPL Gainstation
Universal Audio 610
SOLID STATE - DAV BG1
True Systems Solo
Universal Audio 110
Grace 101
I have the SPL Goldmike 9844 which is a 2 channel tube pre and really is something of a bargain. It goes for £270 in the UK.
The SPL Gainstation can do Tube or Solid State and has a great reputation! I am looking for a transparent uncoloured pre myself and the four solid state pres I listed above are the ones that people are raving about for this.
All the pres I've listed are well within your budget

I have the ART Tube PAC. Tube Pre and compressor for not much money. It isn't exactly an Avalon, but hey...
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
