I have the album, its damn good. Was curious if anyone knew how he got all those noises glitch breakdowns. Not just samples right, sounds like live plugin manipulations.
Thoughts on the album anyone?

hi,
im always looking here but hardly ever post, thought id add my comments to this thread.
yeh i like this album, sometimes the songs get a bit undistinguished with one too many tracks that have the same drum beat intro, then comes the singing, then guitar and synth for the chorus, but thats still alright. Love In this twilight, sounds like he sampled a pig in there.
what i can say bout the breakdowns (like the ones at the end of great destroyer) is that they sound cool, but as to how they're made...
try the freeware effects - Darkware http://www.jackdark.net/darkware.html put some of em on drums and screw around, maybe add a ring mod too?
also found this thread http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=175319 a lot of NIN discussion there.

um... i only bought this album because i have a buddy in a band who wants me to mimic this group... i found it sounds nothing like they did back in the day.
i find the new album rather video-game like and cheesy. i don't think i quite like it, actually.

"Another Version Of The Truth" is what I drive home listening to after spending the night doing some very bad things.

I just love the irony of him using a Synth named after a project that been on a creative level higher than Trent for a long time. And yet will never get the sales or recognition - although I would love to be proven wrong there.

So many Wretch Machines! I hand-printed each and every one of those panels m'self...funny to think of the people using those synths!VanEck wrote:

^^^ yeah it's going STRAIGHT INTO THE TOP 40 because you know it's so accessible ^^^
I wish someone made a plugin that emulated that, it looks like a pretty straightforward interface.VanEck wrote:

For "With Teeth", Atticus and Trent used Trash regularly in the creation of the gritty, Nails industrial sound. Here Atticus tell us about his past, his present, and how iZotope continues to help him make it down and dirty.
When Trent and I were working in New Orleans, we had a PC running only for Trash—before it ran on a Mac—because we thought it was so good. I think what you've got now are these programs, where you can really go deep if you like. That's what I like about your stuff. When you open it up, it's not on and off, you have many pages to go through, and you can really define your own sound.
We used Trash through the last Nine Inch Nails album, and it would be our first stop in terms of plug-in distortions. We found the way Trash is laid out, it's probably some of the best programming in that realm. I think that it sounds great. A lot of the stuff that I like and work on requires distortion, and I found it's something I use a lot.

Yeah, they used Izotope Trash on With Teeth, but also Reaktor if I remember well, for processing guitars...
And for Year Zero, the album have been essentially made on tour, and I believe they have not used much hardware for this record ... (the opposite of the usual lust of gear on the others, TDS or TF).
