Controller Surface to Improve KB Controller

I'm wondering if there's some hardware unit that can add all the features of a good midi controller, but without a keyboard - something to add patch change features, splits points, layers, MIDI routing, transposition, controllers, etc.

I'm looking into getting a basic keyboard controller for gigs and don't want to limit my options to the few models with good piano action, good controllers, and a decent price.

The Novation remote zero comes to mind, although you'd need to check its specs to see if it does what you want.
