Hi. I'm looking for a decent Electric Guitar soundset to play in manual Rhythm guitar parts. I really like Direct Guitar 1.5 by pettinhouse but they don't have it for my sampler - Halion 3. Are there any other decent realistic guitar libraries / vsti's available?
I seen VSTi's like Virtual Guitarist 2, Liquid Guitar and Chris Hein Guitars but I'd like something that I can play 100% real time.
I'd particlarly like a decent Fender Strat for stuff like funk

For me, the Prominy Lpc and Chris Hein Guitars are the best e-guitar VSTi's out there, in terms of both sound and playability. They feature a massive amount of differrent articulations, which are triggered by keyswitches. It takes a little practice to get used to these keyswitches, but once you figure out this type of working, you can create very realistic guitar parts. I use them both and my rhythm guitar parts are indistinguishable from the real thing most of the time.
However Prominy Lpc is for NI's Kontakt 2 and Gigastudio, dosen't support Halion. Chris Hein Guitars include Kontakt 2 Player, you don't need an external sampler to play them. Another thing to consider is that these 2 VSTi's don't offer Fender Strats - Prominy Lpc offers Gibson Les Paul and Chris hein Guitars offer two Ibanez electric guitars and also acoustic guitars, banjo and mandolin!
But here's the good news after all: Musiclab is about to release a Fender Strat VSTi (which will require no sampler), and so does Prominy. Check out their websites - based on my experience from their previous VSTi's, their new ones will probably be the best e-guitar VSTi's ever!

Man Prominy is serious!! It is probably gonna be out of my price range for the moment, I'd kinda like to spend under under $100 if possible? What's Manyguitar like? Anyone have any experience with this one? The Funkaaaay mp3 sounds quite good ( certainly better than the rhythm parts I've been getting from Sampletank 2XL and Plugsound Fretted Instruments!

Wow thanks Yossarian how playable are they? They have the sound that I'm after and the mp3 demos sound excellent. $23.95 vs $300+ !!? These might do the job nicely. Anyone used them?

The playability is pretty good. Not as many articulations as LPC or Chris Hein, obviously but good value at the price. I think you'll find that it will take a fair bit of work to get results like in those mp3:s (which are expertly programmed) but then that's always the case, isn't it?

I'm pretty proud of the rhythm guitar track on it.

Sure it is. Many times I've found myself listening to product demos on websites and saying "wow, now that's so cool,it can do this, it can do that, etc." and finally buying some of them...only to discover that it would take dozens of hours to make the damn thing sound like the demos. You can judge the sound (tone, colour, whatever) from the audio demos, but not the playability. It really depends on your needs, after all. Realistic rhythm guitar parts played in real-time,ok...but before you make any purchase, you have to ask yourself what do you want to do with an e-guitar VSTi. Play complex rhythmic parts, with many articulations? Or simple, "bread & butter" parts? If the latter is the case, I think you will do fine with the Sonivox stuff, which however won't cut it for more complex lines.

Well I just went for the Sonivox Strat and on first impressions it sounds excellent - much better than the ones in Sampletank 2XL and Plugsounds Fretted Instruments! Once I got my head round the different sounds and soundbanks etc it is pretty easy to get some realistic guitar parts happening. Am looking to buy the other guitars and the brass + sax soundfonts.
P.S. Gregjazz - I checked out your demo of ManyGuitar and it sounds great. I decided on the Sonivox because I'm really on a tight budget at the mo!
