GhostBusters PKE meter sound, who knows?

last night i was watching GhostBusters and there were using a funny looking gadget called the PKE meter to find ghosts ,This thing makes a cool sound which couldn't figure how to make myself, is it synthesized? how the hell did they make it ?

wasn't it like a geiger counter sound and a sine wave sweep?
