Good Day,All,
I received my Tracktion Software when I purchased my Layla ECHO 3G soudcard and really liked its user-friendly concept until I tried to do some audio recordings. I keep getting a windy sound in my audio recordings despite numerous attempts to get rid of it. I have almost tried every setting but this sshhhh... sound never disappears!
I have set Traction as follows:
Wave Device - Echo WDM
Dafault Wave Output (enabled) - Layla 3G A3/4 +Layla 3G A4
Wave Input - Layla 3G Analog 1 + 2
Sample Rate - 44 100 HZ
Latency - 512 samples
I am using UNIV IN 2 with a Studio Projects B3 microphone. I am running Windows XP. This does not happen when I use other softwares like Cubase and Acid.
Please help! I am now frustrated and desperate to get this Tracktion working properly!!!!!!!!!!
PS. My copy of Tracktion is registered
Thanking you in advance

Just to check: when recording with different software you don't get any background hiss? Sure? Checked it twice??
Because the incoming signal should be the same no matter what software you use. The program doesn't alter the input signal. So it sounds to me like the hiss is already in what's coming into the Layla 3G.
Also check weather you haven't raised the trim too much. There's always a bit of hiss in mic signals, but the level should be well below -70dB. Maybe there's a fader (on the track, the master fader) pulled up so the soft hiss becomes loud and annoying.
What happens if you sing really loud in the mic? Is the signal way too loud then?
Bottom line: I think it's a problem with the gain settings at some point in the whole chain. A bit of hiss is normal, but it shouldn't be too much.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried putting the trim knob to as low a setting as possible but still get the same results. I use Cubase and Acid quite a lot and there is no hisss sound from these two softwares.I am talking here of an 'empty' audio recording with no filters or plug-ins. Another thing that I do not understand is why should I use Layla 3G Analog 1 + 2 input icon for recording if I actually insert the mic in one of the universal inputs at the front of the 3G soundcard? Could this be the problem? Why am I not seeing the 'Sound Capture' record input icon in Tracktion as indicated in one of the manuals?
Response are highly appreciated.

I have the Layla/Gina 3G manual .pdf here in front of me, but nowhere it mentions "sound capture".
"Layla 3G Analog 1 + 2 input" is the same as "Univ In 1/2". Just different labels for the same thing: primary input pair on the front of the unit.

Thanks, BertKoor,
The 'sound capture' icon is in one of the .html manuals (quick start guide) that came with the software CD. My hisssing sound is still there. Please help.
Thanking you in advance.

If you play back the recorded track, at what dB level is the noise exactly? Does it also happen if you select input pair 3/4 for example?
Can you verify again that when recording with Cubase the hiss is not there?
Oh, and you may check the project sample rate settings. Make sure you select 44.1 or 48kHz with 24bits or 32bits depth. Just today in another thread someone did measurements of a Layla3G and discovered that in 96kHz it operates simular to 16bits (background noise at 91dB instead of 113 it should be)

Stupid question here: have you registered Tracktion yet with your serial number? If not then T will operate in demo mode and there will be a "windy sound" every few seconds. You wouldn't be the first person to run into that scenario.

Can you confirm that the program itself is aware of that also?malikos wrote:PS. My copy of Tracktion is registered
It should say who it's registered to in the startup splash screen me thinks...

i had a demo version of T2 that did that. So make absolutely sure that it's registered, and make sure it isnt a crack either. That happens too.
