Question about 1818m I/O routing with external FX

Ok, I've been meaning to tackle this like for forever, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to implement the work flow.
I have an 1818m Sound card with the break-out box, etc.
What I want to do is be able to send to one of the 1212m's outputs to my external effects and pre-amp , then route the effected signal back into the sound card without getting a feedback loop, so I can record the hardware modified signal..
The E-Mu mixer is a well-made, but it's something I've never been able to get proficient at using , so any feedback would be awesome, or even better, if someone can make me a damn session file for the mixer, I'll tattoo your ass for scott-free, no questions asked.

Hmm I cant help by explaining this, BUT I do run outboard hardware this way and all I did was use the Template in the mixer.. I use the "Direct Out" template and that got me working with all my outboard Comps and recording it back in.. I dont do this every session, so its not ingrained in my head to tell you specifically, but the template that is provided got me started very well..

OK, cheers for at least pointing me that far. I've got a BOSS GL-100 in addition to a half-dozen vintage Boss pedals I'm sick of not being able to use in these damn digital hosts..I admit I'm a dumb f**ker when it comes to using patchmix, but this is ridiculous..Killvehicle wrote:Hmm I cant help by explaining this, BUT I do run outboard hardware this way and all I did was use the Template in the mixer.. Yeah sometimes I think I got my head around the patchmix and then I cant add a channel strip and get it routed in!!!!
If I was at my DAW I could tell you exactly how I do it.. I did save a template that worked for me.. I even used some guitar pedals in this way with suprising success. I think I had to switch it to-10db though.. About 2 months ago I remixed a friends album using all outboard.. THat was actually the only time I used the pathcmix this way( I had all 8 outs running into FX and I ran all of em back in.. I rememeber there was something that was initially giving me a fit about it, but I was able to figure it out.. Sorry cant pinpoint it for ya..

f**k man..I used an XLR from the GL 100 into the XLR on the 1820 face and I was able to get a feedback signal, but still no mixing with the original output..
Tried setting up a send/return with no luck either.
Patchmix is a frump whore..

That's EXACTLY what I'm trying to do.Killvehicle wrote:I even used some guitar pedals in this way with suprising success. I think I had to switch it to-10db though..
Btw, the XLR output from the GL is +4db..

yeah there is a feedback problem that can arise. I think I monitored the input thru my software.. This may have been my solution to the feedback..
IF no one gets back to you on this, I have some time tomorrow to get to my DAW and see what it is I did.. Did you try the EMU forums??

Where's you find the production forums at, btw?Killvehicle wrote:Ok man I did a quick search at the production forums
You don't mean the ones here, do you? I thought EMU had a forum they routinely banned everyone from for any and all kinds of shit, but I couldn't find it..
I guess asking this question would have gotten me banned as well..

Random thought:
If these soundcard developers had a clue, they'd take a hint from Tracktion and eXT and have a modular interface at least as an option.
I'd be all over this f**ker if that were the case..

I managed to do this recently, but can't remember offhand what I did... if you've not got it sussed, remind me to look...
