Which sampling/sequencer/groovebox can play and sample?

I am looking for a hardware desktop sampling sequencer (or any sampling sequencer), that will allow me to sample an external source going in to the audio in, while playing back a pattern. For example:

1) Hook up a synth to groovebox via midi and audio from synth into the groovebox.
2) play a drumbeat on the groovebox.
3) record via midi, a bassline from the synth
4) then, playback the midi bassline while sampling it.
5) then add the sample to the pattern, so I can add another sound from the synth like a lead.

Or

Simply play a real bass guitar along with a pattern and have it sample 4 measures or so.

Which grooveboxes can do this? The korg ESX can't do it. Can the MC-808? I know an ASR-10 can do it...but I'm looking for something more recent, or with more max sampling memory.

The RS7000 may be able to do this..maybe someone who's used it can confirm.

it can and is an incredible seq,but the sample management is a disaster on that thing, it will make you pull your hair out if you want to sample, edit, and go with any amount of quick workflow. limited sample time as well.

I would whole heartedly recommend the mpc. 1000, 128megs of ram max, and you can put a hard drive inside it as well as it comes with a compact flash card reader, and it has usb with wich you can transfer samples and sequences back and forth from your puter.

it does sample while playing back sequences, and it does have audio recording of I believe 8 tracks (don't use that feature myself)

it has a great workflow

What do you mean?

BTW: MPC's can do that also...

btw you can find them used for a pretty good price between 4 and 6 hundred, got mine used for 350+ a bcf 2000 midi controller, and I want another one. they are so versatile and useful you've got to get one to truly understand.

Are you talkin about recording realtime to a beat? The sampler and sequencer are the things every raves about on the RS so whats up with that? :|
