I am thinking of buying an E-Mu XBoard 61.

Prowling around E-Mu's website and elsewhere I saw that it requires Windows XP SP1 (among other things).

So far, so good. SP1 is what I'm using.

But then I looked at the Downloads section and the latest firmware and Control software requires SP2.

My questions are:
- Any idea why?
- What bugs/new features do these updates fix/add?
- Has anyone used these updates in Windows XP SP1?

this is the unofficial e-mu forum, forums for each of their products, with reps and users to give better informed answers than me, my opinion is that something in SP2 is needed for USB to function at a level required by xboard users. Beancounters at e-mu are ruthless, win2K support is dissapearing, vista support is slowly emerging, driver updates have been received with mixed reviews, so XP2K seems to be the sweetspot...
and the silent majority happily play their xboards.
