My X-Station USB interface has broken down :(

So I need to buy myself an audio/midi interface. I basically only need a couple of good quality outputs, low latency, for playing live. Using an XP laptop.

Has anyone had any experience with the Alesis IO2 USB?

It looks just like what I need, but just wondering what the drivers are like. Seems from the specs the sound quality should be good. Any opinions?

Hello? Any pointers much appreciated! Or suggestions for interfaces in similar price range?

I have an alesis fire wire mixer8 which is reasonably priced and gets 4 channels of millenia preamp into a laptop multi-track DAW(Tracktion2) The a/d chip is clean (same as the ADAT), I record at 24/48 and the only thing I have to wory about is mic overload, I run everything thru the alesis at unity and control gain with the preamp. It's small and robust; the power line in has a bayonet fitting and the line lump is about six feet away. The 1394 cable is generously long too. Why spend $300 for two inuts when you can have 8 out and 2 back to the mxr. No midi of course. Doesn't have ALT3/4 like the Mackies but it has the FW instead for "real" simultaneous 8 track recording. I send the mxr 2-trk mix (not the FW return 2-trk)to a DAT for insurance in case the pc farts for 30 secs and loses programme. Good luck.
