Hey, I was wondering as I have a situation like this: record label wants to release two of my tracks and there's gonna be two remixes included from two other artists and the remixers needs a few parts of my original music for their remix work. In my productions I've used few samples from sample cd's which I've bought. Now the question is: is it legal to send these parts I've used from these sample cd's to the remixer? Or do I break the licensing agreement which says all lending is prohibited by law?

Seems that's not legal...peteman wrote:is it legal to send these parts I've used from these sample cd's to the remixer? Or do I break the licensing agreement which says all lending is prohibited by law?
You could mix through some of the backing tracks or something else of your own, then it has become a "derivative work".
Or just have them buy the same sample CD, tell them the info they need. That's the most safe and clean solution.

In a situation like this, I think it would be OK to send the tracks in isolation... it's just a stem mix. They're not going to solo the sample library parts and use nothing else. Might want to ask the opinion of someone like Eric Persing though.
