I am currently looking at some studio monitors for my setup. I am leaning towards the KRK Rokit series (either 6's or 8's) but I have a chance at a good deal on the Samson Rubicon R6a's. Anyone have any suggestions which way I should go?? Anyone have experience with either of them? Or suggestions for alternatives in the same price range?

I produce Electro house and a some hip hop.

Cheers.

for the price - nEar makes decent super-low cost powered studio monitors.

for a little more the yorkville's seem to be the best all around performers. I really like the behringer truth actives as well, they are not as live and clear as i would like, but for the money they are very competitive...

for the price, I can safely say that those rockits seem very nice.

a. the write ups (at the time the 5's and the 8's) in SOUND ON SOUND were quite promising. Comments include thinking there is NOT a substantial bass loss with the 5's  So I'm guessing the 6's would be a bit beefier?

b. I just bought the vxt4's, which are quite nice.....and also plenty of bottom end for the size. The rokits were not on demo however, so I don't have a diffinitive "comparison" :(

Frankly I just don't know of anything the rokits are deficient in for that price :(

I have a buddy who has been mixing on a pair of the new KRK's(6)four the last 2 months. I'm really impressed with the way his mixes have been translating lately and he himself has been satisfied with the results he is getting. He does alot of techno/ electro with vocals and has no so sound treatment what so ever in his studio, but the KRK 6"s have been working really well as Nearfields in his current enviroment. I personally have not heard the monitors but I have heard the end results of first attempt mixdowns, they have played very well on other speakers, vocals are very clear and bass levels seem to be pretty well balanced.

you know what, I needed new monitors lately cause my old ones were shit, I bought them when I was very broke.... I am still kinda broke, but just got a pair of Event ALPs I am totally impresed... about the same price of samsons... and I am just wow with them,,,, I think the best cheapest monitors you can by... really, flat, and clear..... yes yes, a little bass heavy, but that is something to be expected in this price range, I paid 330 at sweatwate dot com, and just reallly descent set of moniters, when I have a little more money I willl go with the tannoys um, I forget what they are called but 800 dollars for the pair... untill then

I am quite happy, plz take a look Event ALP....
