Please rank the interfaces only, regardless of the features. The programs are listed in no precise order, although generally speaking the most popular are listed first. Only Windows players are listed.

I listed Wusik as best interface, simply because Kontakt is incredibly cumbersome, although it's probably the best sampler out there IMHO. I know that it has tons of great features, and you've got to put them all somewhere, but the result is too many pages on the GUI, along with tons of dropdowns.
Wusik is very simple and easy to get to the features. However, it occurs to me that I've never used it to actually make custom samples from my own material, so I don't know how user friendly the GUI is to actually create samples.
One omission from the list which I think would win hands down is SAMPLETANK. Many think of this as a ROMpler, but I've created and manipulated tons of sample sets much faster and easier than I could in Kontakt. Sampletank has a very intuitive interface, all on one page, with possibly the easiest FX routing ever. Whereas Kontakt gives you some very exotic functions that you may never use, Sampletank gives you easy access to the most needed and often used functions.
Cheers

Sorry to leave out SampleTank. I also like the interface. On the other hand, it doesn't let you easily create instruments. But I did say "Sample player," didn't I? Sorry.

Only twelve people voting after four days? I'm surprised. I really thought that more people would be concerned with the interface of sample players.

I was going to vote but thought it was a bit unfair as i've only really tried Kontakt. I've dabbled some with Halion years ago.
So for me Kontakt is the best but only from lack of trying the others.I like it a lot though and think it's cumbersome as some other people do.I find the interface to be almost perfect for what i do.

I use Kontakt for sample sets I buy, but I end up using NNXT for things I create. NNXT is pretty easy to use.

Isn't EXS24 Mac only? (The message below the poll mentioned that only Windows programs were listed.) I couldn't find a way to include this info on the same page as the poll.

I'm surprised that GigaVST (GVI) Has not been voted for at all so far (as of 23 votes total). Regardless of the fact that our current product uses the same interface, the GVI interface has to be one of the cleanest out there. Admittedly this is one of very few soft-samplers I've used, but among those that I have used, it's the king of "load-and-go", and it's more advanced features (key re-mapping, stacking, KS's, AHDSR, LFO, etc, etc) are hidden under a very thin layer of buttons/arrows. Ditto for save and recall.
Whaddya think the buttons and arrows are for, people!!!???
As well, I'm also surprised at the absence of the EXS24....

My favorite combination: VSampler and my old Akai S1000 collection. It plays the old Akai better than any other sampler.

Mark Belbin:
GVI may suffer because you can't create mulitsamples in it. As a player, it's good, and the visual interface--in terms of giving you access to the features--is excellent, but the features may be lackikng: you can't do extensive edits, draw velocity curves, filter frequency points and offsets, or modulate parameters as much as you can in VSampler or Kontakt or Gigastudio.

Yes, and it's also the best soundfont editor hands down.Bubbamusic wrote:My favorite combination: VSampler and my old Akai S1000 collection. It plays the old Akai better than any other sampler.

It imports Akai beautifully, plays sf2 well, sounds great, and is the best instrument builder on the market when you want to make your own. It also has a very competant destructive audio editor and great looping tools. All that's missing are multis. Well yes, you can use it multitimbrally on different channels, but there's no way to build combis like in Sampletank. But it's just such a great, great tool if you do sampling and/or want to play sounds from diverse formats. Anyone serious about a software sampler needs to check it out.1-2-Many wrote:Yes, and it's also the best soundfont editor hands down.Bubbamusic wrote:My favorite combination: VSampler and my old Akai S1000 collection.
