Hi guys! :)

At them moment I'm using Manystation to add cello to a vocal/piano/bass track.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the most realistic sound? The sample sounds are great (as always), but are there any cello techniques I could use, to sound more like it was a cellist playing?

Any help appreciated! :)

Hmmm ... I have thought long and hard on this....
and this is all I can come up with:

Put lotsa rosin on yer bow
Keep it between yer legs
Play it with feeling

Hmm ... perhaps only the third applies to you Alan ;-)
And perhaps explains why I have not sampled an accordian yet. You want me to what????

hehe... on a more serious note, those samples in ManyStation were new Fitch samples. So they should already have some feeling built in ;-)
Maybe we can PM her to come by this thread if she is around these days.

Cheers and sorry I don't play the cello or I would try to help more.

I would put some controllable volume and controllable vibrato/vibrato speed. Also, put all the articulations in different layers, but with separate velocity ranges. But make sure velocity doesn't affect the volume--your assigned controller to volume will take care of that.

Thanks for the suggestions guys (serious and otherwise!). :) I'll experiment with what you suggested.....well..with what Greg suggested anyway! :D

I'm finding playing solo cello and violin from a keyboard is ok if you can hide it in with other instruments, but it's hard to do well on it's own. But, I guess that's what real cellists are for!

Thanks again guys! :)
