I'm trying to get a really dirty radio voice sound but I have no idea how its done.

Just get a fuzz/distortion effect. Ive gotten similar results from FuzzPlus2 (it's in the database).
EDIT: Also use a highpass filter and kill some of those lower frequencies.

Also, try the free Vinyl plugin from Izotope, it isn't eactly what you are asking for, but it can help. Be sure to think about the bandwidth of a dirty radio signal, us a HPF and LPF before effecting the voice and it will be more realistic (no pun intended, heh).

here is the link to Vinyl:

Hope that helps..

If you are using cubase you have a filter called Q ther you have radio, phone and more

i have "StepFilter.dll" Is there some kind of filtertype called Q or something? It probably doesn't come with the "Studio" version.

http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=3 Cyanide2 has a preset called "Cold Turkey" that with a bit a tweaking can make both eq+distortion like an old radio

Post

use a bandpass filter and then add some random peaking shelves with high q values

Just try these settings in your weapon of choice...

...And then dream of speakerphone....Which could do this in no time.

police scanner and fm power dj are different signal chains. people said stardust had a good fm bass..

imo, it's just proper EQ-ing, anyway KORG MDE-X (mini but potent) VSTeffect has the best preset for that.
