If you haven't applied your credit for the upgrade of your choice yet, this might be the best time to do it. Squids announced on the REX Pak group buy that you can apply your $79 credit towards the complete set of 15 REX loops. We're looking for 23 more people right now to hit the lowest price, and get an extra bonus disk. If you haven't checked out the GB yet, check it out! It ends Tuesday so there isn't a lot of time.

I think this is too good a deal to pass up!

I think this is too good a deal to pass up too!

Just 6 more needed to reach the best GB price on this.

No thanks. The last thing I need is a bazillion loops to wade thru (most of which I'll never use). I prefer a more focused approach.
Besides the Studio Profiles GB left me kind of dry, it was after all back in Feb. 2006.

Well, actually, it's very well organized so it isn't really like having a bazillion loops to have to go through but rather... really good material to use for your music that's easy to find. A lot of different grooves fit with each other such as adding percussion grooves over rock grooves and things like that. But, when you're able to apply your Studio ProFiles Group Buy as credit the deal is just ridiculously good.

Now, as a side note responding to the fact that it was beginning of last year... yes, well, it's true that the artist titles have taken us quite a while to be released and we apologize for that. Some contractual stuff as well as technical delays. But, actually, the styles of the Studio ProFiles WERE released but they were called "RAW Style Paks" instead (RAW stands for Rex, Apple Loops and Wave). Those are the stereo versions. The multitrack versions are still coming out as Studio ProFile titles and they're about to be released finally.

But, anyway, for over a year people who participated in the Studio ProFiles SE Group Buy could apply their credit (nice to have even gotten a credit by the way, on top of a full DVD of sounds) toward RAW Universal Groove Kit or any of the 15 R.A.W. Style Paks. That's a lot of options! I am not sure how anyone can feel bad about that. But, if someone was waiting for some of the artist titles or the more esoteric (but fantastic) multitrack versions then I understand the frustration. The only thing I can say to that is that anyone who bought the original Studio ProFile Group Buy and was really wanting artist titles or multitrack versions just ask for a special deal on them when they come out or apply the credit then instead. We're releasing 5 artist stereo titles in less than 4 weeks from now and a handful of multitrack style titles are coming around that time as well.

This takes a LOT of work to do them and we're the only company that makes Rex, Apple Loops and Waves where the slices line up the same between the three formats. We offer some pretty amazing deals so we only hope that people are able to appreciate that and take advantage of it for the benefit of their music. That's what it is for. So, it's up to each person what makes sense for them. Either you want to have it and can make use of it or not! It's GREAT stuff. So much can be done with it creatively.

Like I said, not enough there to be useable for me personally. Or rather too much would be unuseable for me...personally. To each his own.
I thought the GB discs were a great "taster" but not enough to really use. Not what I had expected at that time but that's my bad for not looking into it further.
I am very much looking forward to some of the multi-tracked loops though and can well imagine the work that they entail.
I'm glad you appreciate the frustration at the long wait. And hey, I'm a patient guy.

Yes, this set is quite diverse ranging from Rock to Hip Hop to Electronic to Jazz, Country, Blues so surely it isn't for everyone. It's just surprising how one style that someone might normally not think they would buy could have useful stuff for a completely different stylistic use. So, for that and still for the right person I think it is nice to get a bundle like this where it's like buying 3-4 and getting an additional 13 discs free. It's a chance to experiment with titles and styles you might not normally have access to.

But, I do think it is important that someone looks into what they are buying to be sure they know what to expect. So I am actually glad you're doing that. We want satisfied customers.

Later next month we'll start releasing the style multitracks starting with a variety of British Rock discs as well as Rhythm & Soul which are Motown style sessions.

Inconceivable! :-D (Just kidding -- still one of my favorite movies, though) I, for one, am very happy to hear that.

I may take you up on that (although I have a freebie coming, I believe, so that's probably a good enough special deal for me). When you say a "handful," will that be it for the multi-tracks for a while, or are you guys now in a position to start pushing them out a few at a time on a more or less regular basis now? Are you still including Logic song files as in the demo, or are the formatting options different?

We have Rex, Apple Loops and Acidized Wave versions of the multitrack loops for most of the styles done. They've been in beta for a while. That's the core of the product. The song files were an experiment in the SE. We learned that it's a little complicated when it comes to compatibility with the different versions people may have of their DAW. So, we've put together a document of how to get the multitracks into different DAWS. It DOES require someone to know to pan the left and rights and just follow the directions which explain to do so. (We might put some templates and examples up for downloads).

The part of it that is unique compared to products like Discrete Drums is that they ARE Rex2, Apple Loop and Wave multitracks that do have slices that match up between the formats and are sample accurate between the mic channels which retains the relative time alignment of the directs vs overheads vs room mics. This is really a break through for loops since they are the first loops to be able to have flexible tempo and feel via the three popular formats but also be fully mic mixable!

The drum kit from the session is done in Kontakt 2 but we might also do some programming for EXS, HALion and Structure. However, if we do those would probably be available later somehow. Maybe a free download of the sampler patches or something like that.

The Studio ProFiles are like getting access to famous recording sessions. They're for professional musicians, engineers, producers and songwriters who want to use them in the many different ways you can (either with a sampler or with a DAW or both). Depending on the demand we may enhance them to have more specific functionality and convenience in popular formats.

Thanks, Squids. I understand what you're saying. The song files were rather cool, and were easy to copy for setup, but had their own quirks. That said, it's not that hard to import in Rexes and loops on different tracks. I love the fact that you can isolate a kick, for example, and set up a separate channel strip for it (unlike in a stereo Rex loop, where you can only approximate it by splitting slice by slice over multiple tracks -- good, but not the same).

All that sounds good to me. Kontakt2 works like a charm. Rex and Apple Loops are pretty much all I use these days (are they 24 bit in both, or just in the REX?).

Looking forward to these. Mostly some of the artist titles (more then genre, probably), just because those were the most interesting to me on the demo.

One thing we might do, again depending on their popularity, is have those session files and various things as "Extras" that are downloadable on www.studioprofiles.com That site is going to change dramatically over the next couple of months and there will be all sorts of things there.

As far as the multitracks go, it will be styles first and the artist titles will be stereo only for now. Depending on how well the style multitracks do we will be speeding up the release of the artist multitracks. I mentioned that the first stereo artist titles will be Danny Gottlieb Vol. 1, Steve Gadd, Ed Greene Vol. 1, Bill Bruford and Bun E. Carlos. I think the Jerry Marotta title might be the first multitrack title though and should come out around the same time as his stereo title. Then John Blackwell and more Danny Gottlieb, Ed Greene and some other surprises coming but this is going to be spread out over time.

Still, it's BEEN a while in the making so we have a pile up of releases for the next few months. Basically, recreations of Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Motown sessions plus the 5 artists and more.

Thanks, for letting us know. I realize that I'm probably in the minority among the Studio ProFiles' GB participants in that I don't use loops. I want the kits and I'm still patiently waiting for the kits to be released.

It's understandable. The kits are nice! I like to play the kits too.
