I'm working on a keyboard shortcut program for hosts/vst's and I've made a hybrid offshoot app that allows a user to preview an audio file (.wav only for now) from within any explorer window. Alls you do is place the mouse over the file and press an assignable key and then you hear the audio thru your default audio device (no need to open a mediaplayer or editor to hear it). I have currently tested it on 44.1khz - 48khz 16/32 (so far) and want to make sure it can handle higher clocks before I consider releasing it..

Anyone interested in something like this??

Hmm I think as long as your soundcard has built in duplex or multiplex modes.. Have to test that out but should be ok in most modern comps..

let's see...reduce previewing time by 90% ...no application prefetch crap cluttering my harddrive...no garbage windows media player... i'm thinking, um, yes. Most definitely.

YES! But for my purposes it would really benefit from MP3 capability as well.

Should have mentioned it should preview MP3's also.. Again have only tested for .wav so far..

hmmm, maybe incoporate ogg, aiff, etc. and i think were looking at the next big thing in sample previewing...

would be very cool if it works inside stupid standard file dialog open boxes (fired by your typical application file->open or vst synth "browse..." command)

Ok guys heres the "beta" player for testing out on formats.

AudioPlayer (sampler previewer).

It's the ruff version of the bigger more elaborate player. Basically you mouse over the file you want to listen to and then press the ~ key.. thats it

! As a failsafe I put CTRL 2 to exit. BE CAREFUL RELOADING FROM DIFFERENT FOLDERS (You can move the player cause it loads into memory). Oh and sometimes it buffers on 1st play and actually timesout (trying to work that bug out). Just press play again and it should work.

Can someone please try it out and tell me if they have any problems or can't play certain formats?

EDIT: Just found another bug.. If you open 2 instances and play audio they'l both start playing (working on a fix)..

Also I need screen shots please. Just need to see how it looks on other screens (please pm the links).

haven't tried many formats, but wav/mp3 fine.
the failsafe is nice, because there is no way to stop play of large files.
FR: (Sorry - this may not be wanted, so forgive me if you've already got it covered

sitting in tray rather than always on top window owuld be nice.

In FL, it works fine - actually it will trigger whatever sample are displayed in a window, as well.

Sample previewer/player for XP/VISTA (UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!)
