Drum library for grindcore/death metal?

I ask this every year, don't get round to doing the project I need it for, then ask again the next year.
So here I am again.
Is DFH Superior versatile enough to provide both a generic death metal kit sound, yet be tweakable enough that it's not easily identifiable as DFH in a recording?
With BFD which addon libraries would I need?
Are there any other alternatives?

'OTTO' by Fixed Noise claims to have both a 'death metal' drum kit and a 'black metal' one, though I haven't used it so I'm unsure of the sound. Betamonkey has two volumes of live death metal/extreme metal loops (Double Bass Mania I & II), but includes multi-velocity individual drum hit samples for rolling your own as well. Hope this helps a little. Never used DFH so I'm unsure of how its capable of sounding.

have you heard these demos?

I took this quote from there page "No, there has not been a virtual drumset yet that actually would match the ads or the expectations of professionals. But that's about to change"

Um, for lighter, 'melodeath' music it might suffice, but IMO it sounds way too clean and drum machine-like. There's no way in hell it would work for grindcore...just no way. Guess it all depends on the nature of chagzuki's project. And that price!!!mojamusic wrote:have you heard these demos?

You wouldn't happen to be affiliated with mixosaurus, would you mojamusic? Your post sounds like a sales pitch or something.

I was pleasantly surprised with the "Metal" audio demoon our site.
Admittedly, the drums in Addictive Drums weren't recorded with metal in mind (saving that for later) but there are lots of tweaking options in AD so..
The preset (and audio demo) was created by Jori Haukio, a Finnish metal producer.

Aha, there are more options available than last time I was looking.
As vespers75 suggests I need a very naturalistic sound with some very rapid note repetition: blastbeats and all that.

The second Betamonkey disc I mentioned (I own them both) has 300 bpm 'deathblasts' played live, if you need to go that fast.

Sounds good, but the mix is poor and the drums are swamped. Don't know how they'd sound if they were clearer.

I can't see myself using loops; too clunky. What are the individual hits like?vespers75 wrote:The second Betamonkey disc I mentioned (I own them both) has 300 bpm 'deathblasts' played live, if you need to go that fast.

The indivdual hits are the same as the ones used in the loops...live hits, only at three or four different velocities. The fast blast beats don't sound clunky at all....and you get like 3o or more variations and fills per 'bpm'...so the possible combinations are beyond numerous, and they provide various cymbal hits and variatons to flavor out the mix. They have demos of them used in tracks on the website.chagzuki wrote:I can't see myself using loops; too clunky. I meant clunky to integrate into your workflow. Admittedly it could work and sound good, but I'd rather use a library where midi blastbeats sounded good enough.
One of my concerns is that I'll not like, eg, the snare and a couple of cymbals from one library, so I'll end up having to buy 3 libraries just to get my single kit, and end up with 80GB on my hard drive.

For anyone who's using DFH Superior, are there still workflow issues to do with the lack of disk streaming? Would <2GB RAM necessitate any workflow compromises?
