i got the orginal Emu X with a sound card for $200, the X2 upgrade for i think $80, and it was a pretty big upgrade...how on earth can they now charge 500 bucks? wtf? i just don't get it...

I did the x2 upgrade for 80 too. I'm guessing the 20 gigs of samples justifies (as they see it) the main chunk of the price.

some of those came with the upgrade i got, and they were blowing out others (i think i got protean drums for 20 bucks)...i just think they'd do better at a lower price point, or at least have the app and a seperate sample bundle...whyterabbyt wrote:Platinum comes with a shitload more samples.

but do people have to buy into X2 at that level, or are there going to be package options for new users? i don't have a newer pc, and the few features i could actually use wouldn't justify an upgrade at this time...the one thing i wonder is if there's going to be resizable windows? that's been my biggest gripe...

so the question is: can existing users get into the newer features w/o buying the additional 17 gigs of samples at a reasonable price? i haven't seen the upgrade info, but it seems they are bundling mostly pre-existing sample sets to charge more for features that i'm sure many would consider necessary for their new systems...all things being equal, 500 bucks seems like a lot of bread to buy a sampling program, they could always just offer a nice sample bundle in addition...

(Well, you get all the sample content for the extra money, including the Platinum piano, which has only been released in the past few months. Many people may buy the $299 X2 package and then add libraries now and then, though.)
How do you like X2? Are you pleased with the sounds and the interface, and what you can do with the programming?
I had the SE version of Proteus X for a time (came with a keyboard), and I liked everything but the view of the samples when I loaded up an instrument and wanted to see what samples were mapped to what key: small text and a confusing slider interface for changing velocity layer set points. Does X2 use this same interface, or can you drag layers up and down as in Kontakt?

The "performance" of the Emulator X on Windows was a key factor in my abandoning the Windows platform altogether.
X2 Platinum or what ever they're calling it this week might be interesting if it were available on a stable, performant platform like Linux or OSX.
Since it is not, I'm not interested in it no matter how much stuff they bundle with it. At this point, Emu couldn't pay me to take it.
