Hi
The title says it all : i am a big fan of this amazing oldie toy FM synth, and i would nearly die to use it with midi...

With the insane amount of vst emulations around, did anyone already had the idea to make one ?

Check the spec here, and you can get a PDF copy of the manual there.

You could try and get a PSS-480 from somewhere, that had MIDI and was probably the same engine.

Analogue or digital – which is better? There's only one way to find out... FI-I-IGHT!!!

i didn't know that synth, and that Portasound synths are so cheesy that it musn't be expensive on evilbay.

I used to have a PSS-480 ... awesome for bass. I don't know of any emulations, although I think it was based on the DX7 chip, so maybe ... FM7?

I have a PSS-130 and a PSS-140. I use the PSS-140 once and a while it comes with 104 Sounds if you count the DrumPads. They have a unique Lofi kind of sound too them that works well in hiphop and some dance and techno music. 8)

Yes, that's the point.
They have nice "electric piano", and i remember having had a portasound/sampler (VSS-200) with a killer "Fireworks" preset.
I am always amazed to see that the sounds which always seem the crappiest/cheesiest always fit nicely in a "serious" track.
And, well, having a real FM synth for 15$ is always a bargain ;)

My cousin's friend owned the PortaSound 3000 I believe it was. Nice sounding piece of equipment despite being a bit aged, it had that vintage detail on it that always gives a smile to me.

But yeah, it's FM/PM-based the synth. Anything with FM/PM could do patch emulations, though most likely would end up different and usually better.
