Hi,
Im thinking about getting a mackie control to add to my setup. Looking at a second hand one for £450, good price?
I have an imac running logic pro, a firewire solo audio interface, oxygen 49 and korg padkontrol, do you think the mackie control would be a good purchase ?
If anyone who has one could share some opinions that would be cool.
Thanks

The Mackie Control is one of my best purchases ever - second only to Logic
It makes using Logic much more hands on, faster, and more efficient, once you've changed your workflow. Mixing and automation are much nicer, having a dedicated transport is awesome, and once you learn the tricks there is absolutely so much you can do with them.
Highly recommend if you are using Logic - but ymmv of course.
As for buying second hand - power it up, and check that the faders pass calibration and don't show problems.

I was looking in dv247 and see them new for £569 so maybe £450 is not such a good price?

The M-Audio Radium only has Midi Outputs, no input alas.
So you'd need a simple usb-midi interface indeed...

My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

Another question.....
I actually noticed the alpha track http://www.frontierdesign.com looks great don't know if anyone is using one?
At the moment it appears that it is not support by Logic Pro, but this bit in the FAQ made me a little worried
Does this mean it's Apple's responsibility to make this compatible with an update of logic? If so that mean it would only be compatible probably from Logic 8+ right? or wrong?Does AlphaTrack work with Logic?
Currently Logic and Logic Express do not have native support for AlphaTrack. We have a good relationship with our friends at Apple/Germany (the developers), and we have provided them with units and documentation. We are hopeful that they will support AlphaTrack in a future version.
In the meantime, many of AlphaTrack's basic features can be used productively with Logic[.]

Ok thanks looks like im goig for a mackie control nowbeej wrote:It means Apple would have to write a control surface module for Logic that directly supported it, if it can't work in one the common controllers modes (Mackie Control, HUI mode, etc).
So yes, *if* it was included in Logic 8 it would work, but it wouldn't work in Logic 7.
I see I have to grab a usb midi interface to connect it, if I grab the cheapest one possible does it matter? there is no real need to by expensive ones?
i.e would THIS be ok?
Thanks
