I think it's great, but I would never use it. It's too dated/eccentric of purpose.

Dude, seriously, make something other than virtual analogs for a change.

Anyone try out my entry this year yet?

I know it's not a whole lot, but I feel the Oddy-Free does what it's purpose is extremely well.

I look forward to hearing any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or problems with it once you've tried it on here. :)

Also if you'd be so kind as to choose the closest appropriate answer to the poll above, it'll help me immensely in the future. ;)

Cheers,

I was actually getting a wierd distortion or artifact of some sort with it. I need to play around more, but I remember at one point it was occuring on a particular D note as well as the C# right below it (although to a considerable lesser extent). If I get a chance to play around tomorrow I'll try and post a more comprehensive report, but I am on Sonar 4PE in case anyone else wants to chime in with similar issues/experiences. Mind you this, could simply have been user error on my part.

Aside from that, I did like what you can do with a duophonic mode on a synth. I never thought it would be useful, but I can see now why that particular Arp is still so popular.

I think it's great, but I would never use it. It's too dated/eccentric of purpose. - Woohoo, first vote :) It's a good sounding synth, like the one you made last year, it's just a bit retro for my tastes, but who knows, I haven't tried everything yet, so it's still in the running. :)

I can't vote...my answer is none of those. I liked it a lot. Copypasta from the first impressions thread:

- Oddy-free: Looked like just another SE "emulation" at first, but after fingering it, it has a nice, dark, and "real" texture. Very good for gritty lofi sounds. Can't say how much it sounds like an Odyssey but it will be my go-to for dark lofi analog sounds in the following near future. With subtle processing could easily sound genuinely analog.

i've been diggin it. i like the way it behaves. i guess that's the duophonic

i prefer the vintage thicker synth sounds.

i'm hoping ppl start pawning their vintage gear like they did in the 80's cause it didn't sound like a dx. only now they'll complain that it doesn't sound like a broken toy

"heritage"/"legacy"/"classic" tools are a part/foundation of modern development.. "we" still "think" in these terms, so i'd say still appropriate for new and "heritage" users :)

no input on authenticity :p

i'd say make what you want to make.. no sense making physical models if you are interested in making vas.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

I can defenitely use this to get some good leads in tracks.

Post

I think it's a great sounding synth, not exactly like an oddesey, but then again most oddeseys and othe vintage gear had distinct differences between the same models. I'm still getting to grips with the synth, but so far i have made a great detuned lead and a thick roller of a house bass. Ita got alot of potential.

Post

looks good/true...had Oddity but not my kinda synth....so neither is this really, and never had an original, so cant compare.

Post

I like that synth.
I prefer a good VA/emu than an average feature-bloated/modernist synth.
I really don't know about the emulation as i don't know the original machine, but the sound of the vsti is ok and that's enough (better for rough, nasty, thick medium-bass range stuff than deep low end basses).

Is the 44db noisefloor ratio on the first preset a feature to get closer to the hardware ?
I noticed a typo : "resonace" should be written "resonance".

 i love this synth! thank you!!!

Hahaha, it wasn't meant to be.

To be completely honest (as the majority of complaints and niggles with my entry have been with presets), I hadn't put a terrible lot of time into making patches for it. The final build was done maybe two days tops before submission deadline, so I was working on presets that weekend to get it ready.

Basically, if ANYONE would like to step up and make or submit me some of their presets, I can almost guarantee you they'll be released with it in a future pack of patches.

On a similar note, seeing as much positive response I'm getting from the forum, I've pretty much decided that indeed the synth will be updated and (hopefully through the efforts) improved upon. Any patches sent my way can be combined and bundled with the next major release. So far the main things I'd like to add would be a little more to the analog behavior of the individual components, give it a little more lively feel than it already may have. I will, though, compile a list of ideas that I'll have in that respect and ask which ones you all would rather have implemented and which ones you think are stupid or useless even beyond the point of trying to be accurate.

But anywho, I can't thank you folks enough for all the positive feedback. :)

another little "nitpick" : In Reaper, the plugin is named "container" (which makes me guess it is Synthedit) : is it possible to rename it with his real name ? (it deserves it).

Post

Most definately, I've only today become away of this problem inherent with SE, I know a few things I can try to fix it cause I'm almost positive of where it's pulling that name from.

Hopefully another fix within a day or two. :)
