Noise Canceling Headphones?

Has anyone used noise canceling headphones?

Do they work pretty well? Does it cancel out almost every sound going on in the room around you?

i remember the one time I used them they actually worked quite well at eliminating noise without many artifacts. I would imagine that using the bose tri-ports for tracking purposes in a noisy environment might be much more comfortable than headcrushing isolation headphones.
