Monthly Sound Design Contest?

May've been talked about before, but I was thinking it'd be fun to have a Monthly sound design contest, somewhat like the Monthly Song Contest. No prizes right off, just the contentment of winning something.
People are always posting audio clips here anyway, asking "how to get this sound?" Maybe we make this into a contest?
The way it might work is, a midi file could be provided + an audio example to start things off. Entrants would use their VST of choice and post an audio clip + their preset.
Contest parameters could be adjusted monthly to keep things interesting.
Whaddaya think?

I like the idea. But honestly I don't think there are many people for it.
However, it's a matter of trying. We could start with something and then see what happens.

That's a better idea. It would be fun, like the virus/zebra thread.xolax wrote:I think this is a pretty cool idea. We don't even have to make it a competition. We could just make a sound design thread where people could share their patches and comment them, etc. I support this idea.
Someone hurry up and start the thread.

This idea keeps coming up from time to time but it always falls into oblivion. So, are we gonna do something or what?
I'm willing to start some kind of challenge providing a midi file and a set of rules or something. Anyone interested?
Actually, any of these request-threads in the forum could be turned into a contest...

if I may make a suggestio, - I'm willing to help, btw
,
I would run it like the monthly song comps - that way there is some flexibility to use pay synths, freeware, themes, etc.
so for instance:
Oct=Synth1 month
Nov="a good meal" theme
Dec=Christmas bell patch
Jan=Best lead sound
Feb=3 patches for Augur month.
or something.

Yes, that's just how I envisioned it - an open ended sort of entry scheme where no one would be excluded in cases where the theme centered on a certain synth and they didn't own it. This would rule out any contest theme that required a commercial synth without a demo, or where the demo does not allow the saving of presets (which are quite a few IIRC).ouroboros wrote:if I may make a suggestio, - I'm willing to help, btw,
