Hi,
I was in Greece for the last threes summer holidays and
was heavily impressed by the oriental influences some
even modern songs seemed to have. I like oriental music
but I have no clue how to built oriental scales.
Are there some online resources someone can point me to,
so that I can learn a bit more about it?
Thanks in advance

well...there are a lot of oriental cultures, and a lot of oriental musics, different systems of scales, rhythms, song forms, etc. I don't know the musicological details of how Greek music came to be, but yeah there's what sounds like Arabic influence, and also eastern european/gypsy, it's pretty interesting stuff.
There's some specifically Greek stuff here, it's a bouzouki site, has charts for the scales and some .mp3s of the basic rhythms --

Thanks for your reply, nice link. A good starting point.
As for the influences I read that most of the oriental influences
came from the close realtionship to the Ottoman Empire before 1925.
There are several different ones, but these seem important.
