Hello all,

I've been doing instrumental tracks now for coming upto 2 years, getting better every time, but the one thing i havn't found yet is some decent European Trance type percussion!

Kicks, snares, hats, you listen to itunes and the radio station in there i listen to is in the 'Electronic' genre, and a station called - 'A taste of Trance', 11 down in the list.
The percussion they use is superb, but i wonder what they use, sample cd's, make their own?

My question, can anyone direct me to some real top percussion hits of this quality, that sound really modern, ideally a sample cd of wav's if possible, it's the only thing missing in my creations.

Can anyone advise please?

How many years have you been composing Trance? Don't expect to get decent results if you're still a noob. To get the right sound you need to know what you're doing. I'm sure you have enough samples to create decent results if only you knew how to use them. Of course if I am mistaken and you just don't have enough samples then you'lll have to buy some. What you don't need is "real top percussion hits of quality that sound really modern." There's really no such thing. You need to learn to use samples.

Good point, but you have to have some decent samples first to use as building blocks for tweaking further, this is where the advice is needed.

hey if your looking to spend about 120 usd... uebarschall is a company making great drum samples to be played in thier very own elestik vst

They even have a forum on kvr, and thier website is here http://www.ueberschall.com/

now a lot of the products they make are sorta construction kits, with bass and synth lines.. I am not into this, but I am into the single shot drum sounds, and kits that can be built with thier stuff...

Anyways, a lot of people like addictive drums, some like the stylus rmx, I like this stuff...

Now to be totally honest with you, I know that in the ubershall stuff is great kicks, crashes, rides, snrs, claps, and htz.. but if you looking for percussion

like conga's bongo's and tamberines, and stuff your going to need to look elsewhere... but if you need some of the best kicks, crashes and rides, etc.

plz take a look at the website I have given if. you can find some of my trax in music cafe to get a picture of how the drums have started to come!

great stuff mate... check out thier forum, look on the thier website. its construction kits yes! but you don't need to use em, you can just take the single shot sounds and play em through elestik which is what I do

Superb, i shall take a look at these, the trouble is my drums are not upto date, i need to purchase more modernish ones of this genre!

If you listen to my second track down in the player on my site, Icarus, you'll hear the percussion, not bad, but not modern, i need better sound to get me upto a different level.

vengeance drum samples are the industry standard!

see its personal preference... lots of stuff the man can buy... but I am not into vengeance, and they are not played in thier own vst, and I truthfully I just don't think vengeance is so hot...

but its all personal preference

You may want to look at drum synths like Waldorf Attack! or AraldFX DKS pro. They are both excellent for any drum sound you could possibly want, extremely high quality. If you are familiar with drum synthesis, you can create sounds for any style imaginable with those two synths. I know some modern trance producers that swear by Logics Ultra Beat which is similar to the two I mentioned. I know the bundle Attack! comes in is like $79. DKS Pro is $150 I think.

I highly recommend you have a look at the sets they offer here at www.vipzone-samples.com

While they're more heavy into 'loops,' they do offer sample CD's with more than enough oneshots from modern/gabber kicks, snares, claps, their FX collections and others.

In your case, I think this might be your cup of tea, given the description tags:

You can get by with free samples. Good drums in trance, house, dnb, whatever is usually layered. Learn to layer sounds and they will get good.

Meh, I really don't get the idea of layering sounds. It never sounds good. Tweaking samples with whatever effects is the only way to go IMO.

i have to agree with this. can be very difficult to get those drum layers just right, if your not a totally tuned room

Are you guys serious? Layering sounds is not THAT hard. You just have to get the right sounds initially, fix up any attack/release things, do levels and presto - you have some nice drums. Layering will always yield greater results than just single drums + fx (btw, you can use fx on layered drums too you know).

I understand what your saying, and I have totally messed around trying to synth, and build my own drums.... thing is I just don't have at the moment a great drum synth.... i have some really great ueberschall drum sounds, but those are layered, and processed, and everything, just got to choose the rightly tuned ones for my track.... maybe if I had microtonic, or dks pro. I would go back to trying to synth my own drums, but I have other software on the list to buy long before that.. namely live 6 full version..... so sue me, a hundred silly dollars, I love the drums from uebershcall...
