hereis another in bb's ongoing series of "captures from the cutting room floor". By that, I mean that this is an improvisational "take" whereby I never once touched a record button... but thanks to the magic of Benedict's PreRoll Recorder, I was able to listen back to what had just happened. In this case, I liked it well enough to save it. Now as I listen again- I figure it's OK enough ta share with ya'll
I've really got to start hitting record someday. mind you this is a single take and showcases glaringly bad playing, nonetheless- I liked the feel enough to subject you to it

Background:
>I just picked up a handy dandy set of binaural mic's from the sound professionals and tested them out on a vist with my wife to the local home depot.
>I have also just picked up Dusted William Super Funky Ass Drums loop set and was keen to use them in a piece.
>This also happened to be the week that expertsleepers released Meringue as a Win vst

no fx's at all on dw's loops... on THIS tune...heh!
I used Live's follow actions to "create" the drum part from 5 dw funky ass loops (the "cop show" ones, if anyone's interested) and was quite pleased that it (...to *me*...) sounds like there is an actual drummer on the tune ... well almost!
At any rate- I think it speaks to how well the loops were performed, recorded and cut... and dw is responsible for all THAT!
This is pretty much straight out of LIVE; NO post production done on this. All "post" I really did was to encode the MP3

That's a tight little tune. Way mellow, but I'm a sucka for the e piano sound and hihats that ain't no joke.

I've been wanting to experiment with binaural recording for so long. Can you tell me what exact mic you used for this song?

I'm also really stoked that you used the dw loops on this. That is so cool, I can hardly hold me enthusiasm.

nice, very mellow. It worked well for dinner music, but it drew my attention away from the delicious chicken my wife made. The drums sound really nice, I'll have to check out the sample set. Though I normally use my own accoustic drums, I don't have any with that kind of sound.

A something to play while I drift away sort of music.

Interesting to hear no fx's at all on on a blortblort perc track, I guess this once is o.k to showcase and help support someone else's work. Great demo for what sounds like a great loop set.

Everything so has its place in this tune, plenty of that "just right" element I associate with your music. One thing I especially like is your ability to put stuff in the background enough so that a listener's imagination is allowed to fill in the blanks. The home depot bits are that way, very effective.

I'd usually thank blortblort for the .mp3 but this time I'd like to thank his long suffering wife for the expression I can almost picture on what I'm sure is her lovely face when she hears stuff like "Lets bring the binaural mics with us to the hardware store...".

I am way guilty of ep overuse. Alot of times, it's not recognizable- but more often than not, I'm using Lazysnake (specifically... sometimes other ep's like Scarbee's SEP...) run thru a plethora of fx
the binaurals: the set I picked up is the "SP-HMC-1" from the Sound Professionals (link in post above)
they are one of the lease expensive models offered by Sound Professionals, but man... I don't think I could stand it if they sounded any better. I'm using an Edirol r-09 for field recording these days and with this rig- I can pretty much record anywhere and no one even knows: the SP-HMC-1 is a set where the mic's are built into a pair of Sony walkman-like headphones
while some may see the obvious/dubious benefit of being able to record "live events" covertly- I was more interested in this sort of model as a matter of pragmatism: it's a lot easier to put on (or keep up with...) a set of headphones vs. the contraptions that you put in your ears... I'm sure those work great and may even be better, but I'm lazy- headphone rig won my vote

Thanks very much for listening and glad it went with dinner! no cooking for us this evening: we hadn't had good BBQ for a while, so that's what was on the menu...we got take out from a little place about 45mins away- well worth the drive
and yes- I do highly recommend you pick up dw's set before he realizes how silly it is to sell it for 10bucks

As for the "just right" element- I'm so glad you hear it that way. I think of myself as a "reactionary" player. It's all sort of a call and response thing- I'll hear something in the music and respond to it in whatever way seems appropriate at the time. i don't think about it really. the other half is luck. Honestly. I cannot tell you how many times I've been lucky that I captured stuff that simply just "lined up right"!
