I've always used an old Olympus voice recorder to do quick idea captures. It's basically a little digital unit that has a built in mic and tiny speaker for checking out what you've got on the spot. It has always worked really well but, since it's old and has no usb connection, it is a pain to copy all the files to the pc using the line in/out connection. Anybody else use something similar and have a suggestion for something that supports usb and has passable audio quality (and some way of getting to mp3)? I recently bought a higher end Sony w/usb but the HQ setting turned out to be way noisier than my old Olympus. Basically unuseable. Anyway, thx in advance for any suggestions... chris

I dont know about the USA but there is an updated USB model available here http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/d ... goryID=148 (http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=3902&CategoryID=203&SubCategoryID=148)
You should be able to find the equivalent, probably cheaper seeing as we're robbed blind for electricals in the UK.

I use a dirt cheap USB-stick / mp3 player with a built in voice recorder. Works excellent for quick on the fly ideas. It's just too big for in a wallet, but if it's something you want to carry with you all the time, you could attach it to you key ring. It's one of these:
