Poizone Crapping Out In Ableton Live 6

Hello, I absolutely ADORE the new version of Poizone. Great job, I-L!

But.. I am unfortunately having a big problem. Many of the Poizone patches, usually ones that have a sharp attack to the sound, cause Live's audio output to STOP for several seconds. Really, really, really weird behavior. And - not particularly usable either.

I have reproduced this problem on both Windows XP Home and Mac OSX 10.4.6. Both of these machines are fairly powerful (2.8 GHZ Pentium IV and Dual G5 2.5 GHZ) and were running no other plugins or tracks at the times I had this problem.

This is a killer bug, and I'd be surprised if other people aren't seeing it.

Image-Line: What VST hosts have you tested? Do you support Ableton Live 6.0.10?

Thanks for the report, I'll check it out and hope it to be fixed very soon.

Does this problem happens on standalone version? Can you try any other host, not Live 6? This info would help me to catch the bug, yet I cannot reproduce it.

When this stop happens - when you play a note or right after you change a preset?

Hello Maxx, and thanks for looking into this.

The "stops" happen right when you play a note, for some of the patches. It takes a few seconds after it happens for the audio output to resume. I will try in Cubase 4 as well and report back to you.

For testing, right now, I just dialed up patch "0" on Poizone: "ARP Classic VA ToTC". Breakup city. First patch tried is exhibiting the bug. This is running on Ableton Live 6.0.10, and the breaks appear to have proximity to LARGE CPU spikes, this could be the problem.

Now, I'm switching over to C4 on the same machine (P4 2.8GHZ, 1GB RAM, etc.). Same Poizone patch, same problem. But this time I have to hit a few more notes to get it to happen. When the audio breaks up, there's large spikes in the "VST Performance" meter in Cubase. The "performance" reading is very low most of the time, but when the breakups occur, that reading goes way up.

Here's a patch that really causes Poizone to mess up: "SYN Krystal TC". Hit a few notes on the screen keys, and WHAM.. the "VST Performance" in Cubase stays pegged at 100% for a few seconds, then finally drops back down, presumably after the offending voice's envelope expires.

Now I have seen this problem in Cubase 4 and in Live 6 on both Mac and PC. I truly adore Poizone - please let me know if I can help get it working!!

How do you play the notes, exactly? From the PoiZone keyboard, from an external MIDI keyboard, from the Live pianoroll, ... ?

So far neither me or Reflex cannot reproduce it here. Nor on OSX or Win.

What samplerate and buffer size (latency) you have on your machines sound cards?

Here is some data for my PC system:

Device: Behringer FCA-202, FCA202 Driver v1.0.1.0

"Latency" setting in F-CONTROL applet: 7.62 ms

In Ableton Live 6 Audio settings ("Preferences" dialog->Audio):

Buffer Size: 336 samples (not changeable for FCA202 ASIO)
Input Latency: 33.9 ms
Output Latency: 0.00 ms

While the Behringer FCA202 is truly a piece of junk, I do not believe that it is responsible for this particular problem, since I'm seeing the same problem on my much-better Mac rig with the Echo Layla 3G.

Hi Maxx Claster,
I have the same problem with my system.
I use Cubase 4 with Creamware Pulsar Cards with 7 ms latency and 44,1 kHz samplerate.
My PC is a 2,6 GHz Pentium 4 HT.
Many sounds have a stutterer effect when I play two or three keys together and Cubase shows overload. Sometimes the problems vanishes whe I set Unison to 1.
Could it be that Poizone needs too much CPU power? But I think it could be also a denormalisation problem.
What do you think about low quality mode for Poizone to reduce the CPU power?
I would make the recordings with the low quality mode and then the rendering with the high quality mode.
By the way, I like the sounds of the synth very much.

i have a similar problem except im running
on cubase vst 5.2
p4 2.8 ghz HT with 2 gigs of ram
same things happens two or three keys pressed then i get the stuttering and cubase shows overload.

Do any of you have FL Studio? If so, does it happen in FL as well?

To all who has this problem: great chance it's fixed now. Looks like the denormal, and I could catch some denormal yesterday and fixed it. So, great chance it was the case.

Update will follow before this weekend, PC at least I think.
