I have a lot of difficulty getting vocal / choir sounds out of Z2. There are hints at those sorts of sounds, but I just can't seem to nail something that gives a nice long sustained aaaaaaahhhhhh. Of course, I am only just a beginner in using this. But I don't notice much of these types of sounds in the various patch sets (including OldSkool and Transmission).

That would transport Z2 from the realm of 'stellar' to 'galactic'.PhaseShift wrote:Single cycle wave import

I quite like the Z2 distortion effects (which I think are a lot better than the ones in e.g. the Virus). But what should we really be comparing it to? What is considered THE "reference" distortion?pdxindy wrote:distortion effect is not its strong point...

Sample playback could be something with good modulation options. But this thread made me wonder if there ever will be another synth with focus on something else different from Z2

Howard; well, "modeling" distortion units for one. Guitar Rig, iZotope Trash, Amplitube, that kind of thing. NI started integrating amp/cab elements of GR in FM8 and it really lets you do some great sounds, including guitar emulations.

Well the List of what Zebra can do if you were comparing Zebra to a fictional do-all 'perfect' modular synth:
• Audio Input
• Audio as a modulator, except Filter FM and FM Oscs
• Being "Wireless" also means that not everything is as freely routable as a real modular synth
• No SVF filter morphing
• No multitimbral operation
• There are a set maximum number of each module (I think?)
• Can't look like Zebra 1
• Some synthesis types (PD, actual Physical modelling, scanned, granular, etc..)
I'm sure there are tons more, but overall, Zebra is such a beautiful beastie that you won't care...
