Am I the only person who would like a budget synth wrapped in a box of knobs without a keyboard attached?!

Alesis Ion is about £430, micron (same, less knobs/keys) is about £270, so why can't I buy a knobs only version for about £200-£220?! EVERYONE has controller keyboards these days, so why do the manufacturers keep making these budget options but not making ones for the huge number of peope like myself who want a synth but ALREADY HAVE KEYS AND CONTROLS!!

I like the microkorg, but don't want a shitty little set of keys. I like the Ion, no keys please. Novation Xiosynth, no keys please. Roland SH-201, no keys please.

Seriously, its winding me up!! :x

An idiot on Set Theory:

Well, Under £250 would be nice, but to be honest even for twice that the options are thin on the ground!! I listened to some demos of a Korg Radias (i think it was called) and that thing sounded bloody lovely, but unfortunately my bank manager will give me a spanking if i buy one of those at around £799.

He's a bit cheeky like that.

Depends on how portable you wish it to be, but:

Roland's SH-32
Yamaha's AN200 and DX200
Sean's DarkStar ;)

What about one of those MFB synths...? You sometimes see them on eBay for a reasonable amount and they are most certainly portable.

Interesting topic.

Isn't a laptop with a VST basically what you are looking for? In combination with the KEYS and CONTROLL you already have its the perfect portable synth (+a sequenzer +tons of effects +++++). :?:

And all those Creamware ASB stuff, Minimax being the cheapest. :)
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

There's always the lovely Dave Smith Evolver (tabletop model) but it's hardly a general purpose synth since it's a monophonic hybrid monster... It's over that price range, but it's super-small, has MEAN sound and teh bestest routing flexibility.
never stop loving music.
