Funny I was just talking to a guy at the local GC about this one, they had it hanging with the 25K price tag. I think he said 200 were manufactured? and like 40 had been sold. Retards.

There currently seems to be a trend towards "tackyizing"/"ageing" gear of all sorts..not just guitars......but what's the point? What are people trying to say here? Is it art?

You see it all over the place in graphic design nowadays; I think it's a kind of synthetic-nostalgia in overdrive. Just as we crave analog gear with ease of digital delivery, so too with art; the aged, worn look without actually, uhm, aging or wearing down something.

Authenticity can't be made in a factory. It can't be bought, sold, or traded like a commodity. You either have it, or you don't.

What these guitars are lacking is a true history that comes from playing these things down to the bare wood. Each scratch, tear, and imperfection telling a story. In other words, it not the degradation that makes the original instrument so appealing, but rather what those scars stand for. The effort, the skill, the legacy. Without the real context of where an instrument came from it's just like every other inanimate object. Only this one is poorly treated and costs over 10 times more than it reasonably should.

Having never bought a pair of pre-faded/pre-torn jeans I wouldn't know for sure but I assume it's some sort of posing. A... even though I've never had to work for anything, I want to look like I've paid my dues thing.

These guitars are hero worship items but they are priced so high it's got to be mostly collectors buying them. Some people really do want to be someone else, sometimes even you.

Back in the day when I had fans it used to scare me a little when somebody went all crazy about wanting to be me or sound like me or start talking about how I was some sort of God or some stupid shit like that. It used to happen a lot and it does make you a little nutty after a while.

I guess do I miss it to some degree but not really. Not that I don't love them, I love all of my fans even the psychos but I've changed my whole thing from trying to be loud to trying to be smart. It's not as much fun but I remember more of it and I get a better crowd.

Forget the fans and what they'll do, there is so much emotion involved there is no reasoning that part out. It is an honor to have your guitar reproduced for your fans but what does it say about Ed that he would sign on with Fender to charge his fans $25K for a copy of his $300 POS?

Right, and I wouldn't have been so stunned by it if they were charging say $1000 or at most $2000 (although even that's a bit high), as to give a few real fans a chance to buy something that symbolically means alot to them.

At 10 grand though, jeez I'm thinking it will mostly be yuppies who will look on it hanging on their wall next to a bunch of other pieces of art that they could give 2 shits about, sipping on a glass of wine with some cheezy soft jazz playing in the background. The kind of folks The Police (at least at first) and other punk groups were trying to rebel against.

the evh guitar really makes me aggressive. i'm glad to hear that they have only sold 40 so far. there's nothing wrong with a regular signature model like for example the music man signature models evh, lukather et al. but trying to market a piece of shit by suggesting that you get THE key to the sound of your idol is almost ethically questionable. but then, any marketing/commercial actions could be questioned...
