round-robin switching ?

Hello
my question:
because, english is not my mother tongue, what means
"round-robin switching", it is a funktion in samplers,
but what the hell is this funktion ???
( in german, "round-robin switching" translate as
"rundes Rotkehlchen Schaltung" ? )

Round robin is a function useful when you create a sample library. It allows you to play different sample sequentially absed on their position on Round robin chain.
suppose you've layered two snare sound on a key, one with a sample for a left and hit, the other with a sample for a right hand hit. Assign one sample to Round robin chain position #1 and the other to Round Robin chain position #2. Successive strikes on the key will alternate between the right and left hand samples.

Key switching is another thing.

now I have a imiganation of this thing, the german translation of round-robin was too curios :).
I think, the (expensiv)commercial samplers have this funktion all, but freeware sampler ?

in sfz you can do something similar using the lorand and hirand opcodes

thanks, sfz-format is a good tip for me, its the best way
in the moment for me, because I havent a big sampler.
the sfz-format is a little bit tricky, but I will looking around that thing, it have good options and that all for free...

I use a program called sfzed. It is an editor for the sfz format. http://audio.clockbeat.com/sfZed.html
It takes some learning to make the most of it, and to work efficiently with it, but this is a better option than using a text editor IMO.

in addition to lorand and hirand in sfz, you can also use seq_length and seq_position. check out the sfz specs at http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfzformat.htm
