High time for IK to do something about sample import!

As my collection of samples is growing, I decided to put certain sample sets into handy banks loadable and playable as SampleTank instruments. I had to bite the bullet and use the internal sample import function because it doesn't seem there is a better solution on the way (see the recent thread on multisample creator in this forum).
I read the manual and followed all relevant instructions. I knew well the import function is very basic but this time I simply hit the roof: after a couple of hours I still wasn't exactly where I wanted to be! Plus, SampleTank (otherwise rock-solid on my system) froze several times during "decoding samples". I gave up in the end.
Could IK possibly devote more attention to the import feature? Currently, I find it the weakest and most underdeveloped feature in SampleTank.

I'm not a programmer, so I don't have any problem with ST2 being labeled a ROMpler. As long as guys like Squids are making quality sounds that I can dial into my projects with a minimum of fuss, I'm a happy camper.
I have created a few of my own sample sets in ST2, but haven't done it in a while just because when I need to do this, there are other alternatives that are much easier to work with.
For example, following the most recent Esoundz group buy (with something like a billion drum grooves in 15 different styles) I wanted an easy way to audition everything, so I made up sample kits in Battery just by dragging the Rex files right into it. Then I would load my new Battery kits in Kontakt and save them as .nki files.
I did used to do this in ST2, but IIRC, you had to label the placement of the samples which is very time consuming. I'm sure this has become somewhat easier now with ST2.5, but it's really so easy in Battery that I haven't needed ST for this.
On the other hand, as most here already know, ST2 makes it ridiculously easy to edit existing sounds and create new patches. For me, the on board FX (over 30 different FX) are not only the best, but the easiest to program and control.
By contrast, as far as I can tell, you need an engineering degree just to navigate the FX interface on Kontakt.

One of the translation programs out there can help out in this area. Also, it's true that if you want sample import and customization that's what a sampler is good for. SampleTank is more of a rompler. We WILL be making a lot more sounds for it though on www.esoundz.com

I don't have a problem with ST being a ROMpler, either. I have a problem with ST having an import function that is a pain in the neck to use.BERFAB wrote:I'm not a programmer, so I don't have any problem with ST2 being labeled a ROMpler.

I'll buy the whole 'rompler' idea for ST2 but it seems that IK is 'afraid' to add full features to the very nice sampletank GUI. I also resent that there are features in the Miro which should most definitely have made their way into the latest ST2.5 update! Just being able to playback Miro sounds in ST2 correctly is not enough. I need to to be able to program my orchestral sounds imports to do what the Philharmonik samples do so I can truly 'mix&match' in a composition.
I really don't like working with Kontakt and it seems every new version of it gets more complicated to use instead of easier but ST2 does the opposite and each version gets easier to use! So please IK, if you are reading this thread, give us more programming options that we can actually get to for our imports and make importing more practical. Ability to do sample re-mapping would be a start.

Yeah, please do! A paid upgrade is absolutely fine with me if it gives me the opportunity to use SampleTank more creatively.nexussynth wrote:So please IK, if you are reading this thread, give us more programming options that we can actually get to for our imports and make importing more practical. yes this is really bad - sampletank has this problem in other areas too like search. what i think is the problem is the interface doesn't give the best feedback as to what the plugin is doing so the user starts clicking around and disrupts it. but everything else is very solid on my system, especially in cubase 4 and i haven't even upgraded to the latest ST versiontrixie wrote: Plus, SampleTank (otherwise rock-solid on my system) froze several times during "decoding samples".
