I am planning to buy the 0404 USB interface. For those of you who already own one, is it realistic to expect to work at <5ms @ 44.1kHz without issues? (both playback and, more importantly, recording audio). What's your experience?

I ordered it and was really dissapointed - sent it back. Seemed like nothing wanted to work right. I was using it with an adaptec PCI to USB 2.0 IF that claimed that it might not work with certain composite devices (like the 0404). Sounded really nice though. I'm sure it would work great on my new system but not I don't need it.

I have a 1212M and have latency at 4 and rate of 44.1 set and working fine. I had a slight problem when I updated to the latest Cubase patch but installing the EMU beta drivers fixed it.

Where did you get beta drivers for the 1212m!?!

integr, what were the specific problems you were having with it? didn't work at all? unstable audio even at high latencies?

You used it with a PCI based USB interface which probably complicates things even more. Would be interesting to see how it performs on a native USB bus.

This is where you can get lots of experienced info for each E-mu interface.
Drivers have improved, bundled software is generous for someone
getting started, and problems for specific systems are discussed in some detail.

Good call; that forum saved my ass a few times! I can't believe I didn't know there were v2 beta drivers for EMU products...well, everything except for the 1212m. Bastards!

I bought the interface about a week ago and to be honest I don't even know what latency I'm running at. Tracktion reports the ASIO driver latency but there appears to be additional hardware latency (at least with audio) which is significant, i.e. more than 10ms. But the way I'm recording at the moment it doesn't particularly concern me as I'm running my guitar both to an amp and direct into the soundcard so I can hear what I'm doing in realtime.

I read a lot of reviews and the A/D converters and preamp appear to be a fair bit better than other products in a similar price range.

As for reliability, the first one I ordered was a dud, but the second appears to be OK. So far.

The E-MU 0404? You should be able to check the latency in the Creative/EMU ASIO Control Panel. You should see something like this:

10ms should be 10ms.

I've not delved into it much yet but the default control panel doesn't state latency. It's the USB version I'm talking about.

Funny. I've owned a few Creative cards, and all the ASIO control panels look like that.
