I'm new to all of this so forgive me if I do something wrong.

I have a P2 500 128MB ram and a 6 gig harddrive running Win 98. I have loaded Computer Muzys 1.5 and everything loaded fine and started to play the demo. However the CPU light goes into the red, the audio sample stutters and I get the message "your system is too slow" Why is this happening ? This is the only programme I have loaded and according to CM it requires only a 200 processor and 64 ram.

Any suggestions would be greatfully received

I think you have the wrong forum(try the Muzys forum) but the cpu requirement numbers are always a little "blue sky"-it may very well run on a 200mhz computer but not with a lot of tracks.The symptoms you describe are classic cpu overload.Digital audio and softsynths take a lot of cpu cycles but there are loads of people on this board with older less powerful computers (me included) and we are able to create music with some restrictions.Maybe someone who has a 500mhz cpu can give you some advice and tips on how to get the most from your setup.Also you don't mention what soundcard you are using and that makes a considerable difference as well.Anyway try this thread in the Muzys support forum and I'm sure you'll get lots of help.One of the best thing about Muzys,even Computer Muzys is the support.Good luck!

The system requirements quoted are just for Computer Muzys (which we didn't have anything to do with). The system requirements don't take into account the needs of the plugins that you can load in either.

We provided the Computer Music plugins - CM101, SR202, DS404 and they all have their own seperate system requirements when used in Computer Muzys. If I remember right, the demo song uses a couple of DS404s, a CM101 and SR202. That means you will need to have a much more powerful computer than you have to run the demo.

I know it sounds harsh but a 500mhz PC barely meets the minimum requirements for just ONE instance of DS404 let alone two, and 128mb RAM isn't enough to do anything serious with it. Check the system requirements on our website at http://www.muon-software.com/html/ds404.html

The computer I started out on had specs alot like yours, bouncing MIDI down to audio helps alot.

I have a P III 500 Mhz with 128Mb of ram and can play the computer muzys demo song just fine. Actually, I'm connected to the internet, have netscape running( just started ComputerMuzys while I was reading your posts), and have some stock market software and a data stream coming into my computer. The CPU meter on the demo song only goes to 50%, and the ram is less than that. I also didn't do any fancy special setup on my system for music. Maybe the difference between a PII and PIII is that large. I don'y know. Don't get discouraged. Keep trying to figure out what is wrong. I have a song that uses 3 VSTi's numerous samples, a reverb , 2 compressors and it runs O.K. When CPU usage gets to high on a song, I bounce the worst CPU hog to audio and the meter drops way down. Break up your audio tracks into small pieces. That is, if there are gaps between parts in a track don't just render the entire track as one audio file. Render each actual music section individually. That way you use less RAM. Buy more RAM. It's the cheapest upgrade and will help alot. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried starting again and I'm getting somewhere but when I try and play something in via midi there is a delay. Perhaps that's for another forum.

Dear PT,

Thanks for the advice and the support. I have a friend who does upgrades so I'm going to see what upgrades he can make esp CPU and Ram and then simply work with in the limits of that. Perhaps just use CM 1.5 and the 101 or just the 404 and following your suggestions see what I can do.

That is probably your soundcard's latency. Witch one do you use?
To access the soundcard's control panel and adjust your latencey through Muzys go to 'Audio Hardware' in the 'system' dropdown menu, a pannel will open up where you can choose your driver type (ASIO is the best), click the 'Device setup' button on the right, another pannel will open up, and click the 'Control Pannel' button on the bottom left. This shold allow you to make any changes to your sound cards setup that you need.
Keep in mind that the more that you have going on in your song the higher of a latencey you will need.
