I am thinkig of selling my MicroKorg and getting a Waldorf Blofeld. MK might sound analog enough but its 4 polyphony and 2 timbres is very limited compared to 50 poly and 16 timbres of Blofeld. But Blofeld is very much delayed for several months now and none seems to know when it is going to be released and at what condition. So I am considering Waldorf MicroQ as well. Any opinions?

Does anyone have any news on Blofeld? Thanks!

I'd definitely replace a MK with a mQ any day- the mQ is the biggest bang for the buck as far as hardware synths go that I know of. Programming it without an external editor can be a pain until you get used to it, though.

If you want to find out how a MQ would fit you soundwise, download the Komplexer demo and run it at a 48k sampling rate; you'll essentially have a mQ in software to try out.

I have Waldorf Q having which has the same engine with mQ, and in the past I had MK. What I can say that mQ has a really different sonic character than MK, and it has a deeper and better sound and modulation features than MK, IMO. If you want to go into its programming, it's for sure better to have a dedicated editor software, such as Soundtower sells, in a more comfortable computer environment. But, MK has also powerful sound but especiallt its vocoder was really amazing..

Not quite. A Q has 16 (or 32) voices at all times, compared to the mQ's processor-allocated voices (claimed to be 25, but in real life 12-15). The Q has the PPG filter as an additional filter option, and the filter response is much more sensitive. The Q has a step sequencer that the mQ doesn't. A patch in a Q multi can have two dedicated effects; with the mQ, the second effect is global for the multi. Those are some of the differences.

And of course, with the Q you have the digital out and a lot more knobs...

There might be some few differences for sure but, they still have the same sonic structure and sound. Below statement belong to Waldorf itself..

"The microQ's synthesis architecture and sound comes directly from the Waldorf Q Synthesizer and was packed into an nice 2u rack housing..."

And of course the fact that MicroQ can import Q presets if I am not mistaken. Thank you guys for your replies . It seems that Blofeld migh be release before christmas afterall , a friend of mine got an email from Waldorf stating that Blofeld shoud be released in 6 weeks.Will see . But please continue your discussion. It just suprises me that no other manufacture offers such a big value for money . Seems hard synths are a dying breed!

ew and I had this same discussion about Q vs mQ a year ago. I went with the Q isntead. Great box. I just got Komplexer and imported mQ patches. Damn if it doens't sound really close to the Q. I need to compare it back to back hopefully this weekend.

I used to have one. Loved it.

But one problem is the LCD display. So small. If you can find an editor it will save you ALOT of stress.

Its a versatile synth though. Great filters. Plenty of sound design possibilities. And pretty cheap too.
