After spending a lot of time trying to get answers from FLS on Directwave and it's short falls, it's time to go back to soundfonts.
Now here is the challange:
take the wav files from FL (that wont go into anything but FLS(crap)
and convert them into soundfonts.
Now im a good programmer but I lack the ins and outs of soundfonts and how they are built. So if you have this information and want to work on the project let me know.

1. This isn't related to the Developer Challenge.
2. FL Studio is not crap.
3. Those samples are probably copyrighted by IL or someone else.
The only issue I ever had with DirectWave was it won't work with Chainer, which doesn't support VST 2.4. What exactly are these shortfalls?

Analogue or digital – which is better? There's only one way to find out... FI-I-IGHT!!!

first Well your right FL over is not bad for a basic, the crap comes in when you ask for support on thier products because they wont give give it, or supply documentation with what they sell.
Second try and load one of thier sample files into an editor other than FL (wont happen).
third try downloading somthing big from thier site(another wont happen). thier reply is it's a server problem and we will look at it. I dont care if they look at it, "I paid for somthing and cant get it!"
forth DirectWave only works part time if at all.
BTW dont hold your breath on Directwave (the author passed away)
So as a basic package it's only OK because of just some of what I mentioned.

They give you documentation you can download the manual from their site.

The WAVS that come included in FL Studio are OGG-encoded so that the download size for the whole package is as small as possible.
Use something free like dbPowerAmp to convert them to regular pcm-encoded WAVs.

Thanks
The only problem I have with this method is 8.5 GIG of OGG would take about 200 years to convert. and for an extra what 8-12% Id rather do the download and it work with everything.
My idea of the project was to build an app that would take it all and just convert to SF2 format for quick down and dirty building, and if that sounded OK then go back to the directwave or whatever it's replacement will be to complete the project.
Where I need a hand is formats (how sf2 is built,sampled,etc....) if I need to rite a wav converter so be it (not brain surgery stuff..lord)
Thanks

Have you actually read what they give you . Think back (about 1985-90 or maybe your to young for that) but MS manuals gave you about as much information as FLS does.tjcinnamon wrote:They give you documentation you can download the manual from their site.
I just finished a project that did normal database stuff. It took about 2 years for the project, and half of that was righting the 826 page manual. It's great getting somthing working (trust me it's great) but it is when you have to give it to others that the s**t hits the fan...

My various MS-Dos manuals are all 500+ pages. I'm not sure what your trying to say with that comparison.Rickgr wrote:Have you actually read what they give you . Think back (about 1985-90 or maybe your to young for that) but MS manuals gave you about as much information as FLS does.
FWIW I've never had any of the troubles you've mentioned with directwave or the servers.
As for the samples, I can load them in other programs just fine. Maybe you should complain to the developers of the software that won't load them.
Finally, in regards to the future of directwave after argurus passing. The new betas are already out there and being tested, so I don't see where you get the idea development is over.
I think I'll stand by my 'pilot error' comment for now until you can give me a good reason not too.

I think the new beta works in chainer, but I have not gotten around to testing it.Modeler wrote:1. This isn't related to the Developer Challenge.
