(btw, had no idea what to post this under)

Again :x I find myself in the need of cans. I hate this cause it's too much money and I don't like using them but they are absolutely essential for what I do.

a. Closed would be best since these are mostly for bass tracking (I have senn 580's which are fine for everything else.....but not for bass tracking!)

b. I tested and did not like the ultrasone 650's

c. The ones that went belly up are the beyer dt770's, and I do not want those again.

d. I'm so confused and p.o.ed about it, I'm not sure what direction to go....but I'll settle down eventually! :hihi:

Ideally (please don't laugh) I'd like to fork out about 100 instead of another 200+ set that will last about a year  but I want to hear all suggestions, opinions, since I am totally undecided.

AKG K240S. One feature sets them apart for me: The cable is replaceable, and therefore cat-proof.

I've got a sneaky suspicion that akg's are gonna be high on the list

I'll prolly be shot for this...Bose QuietComfort 2's. I also use Bose Companion 3's as my main monitors.

Sennheiser HD580/600

Post

AKG 240S, Sennheiser HD-200

The only two models I've ever liked. The 200's are cat-proof too btw.

I hate shopping for headphones. One has to go to every fricking corner of town to listen to headphones that all sound wrong :x

got the 580's, love em, as mentioned no good for tracking bass :D

personally i would recommend the akg 240s, but in this thread here i asked if there's a cheaper headphone that's comparable and i got a few responses for the sony MDR series cans.

It's insane!

I like the sound of the dt770's I had but they are trashed. No high end anymore. I guess I could live with them for bass but I want something new anyways (I think I'm like bduffy being a headphone hoe?)

I'm thinking the akg's are starting to be a deal :)

thanks.....

er, seems like the 240's just get the nod all around though?

now, what is it about the 271's that are gettin' it for ya vs the 240s's?

They're nice sounding (K240S), and good for closed-tracking, but they get damn HOT after a lengthy and arduous recording session.

I was watching some of my mates do a recording session, and by about the third hour, their faces were all sweaty and flushed. Every time they had to put the AKGs back on, they'd give this look of horror! :hihi:

But to be fair, the studio itself was a bit like a sauna.

From AKG's specs, it looks like the only difference is that the 271's go to 28,000 Hz, and the 240's go to 25,000 Hz.

I'm so pleased with my low-level AKG's (after trying every goddamn pair of headphones in Vancouver! I feel your pain, Stefan!) that my next purchase will definitely be the 240's or the 271's. AKG destorys, you can't go wrong.

btw: Bose were the worst headphones I tried, but those were the in-ear ones. And I still haven't heard a pair of Sennheisers I like...
