Friday Nov 23, why is Manytone website apparently down?

Tried to go there a number of times today to check out the Manybass set, can't get there. Manybass.com is clearly a work in progress, with nothing available but a placeholder.
What's up?

Hi
Yes it appears our server has a problem at this point.
I just talked to the techs and they said it could be 12 - 24 hrs.
They had to do an Operating system reinstall due to server not coming back up after a reboot due to a hardware issue.
So not much I can do about it till they sort it at the host.
Fingers crossed all goes well .... Sorry for the trouble.
Manybass.com will be opening soon. It is on another server, so that is why you see the placeholder for it...until we launch it anyways.... which we are almost ready to do.
All ManyTone.com email is down also. Please bear with us, if you are trying to contact us. EDIT: Email is now working.

Hey folks
Well some not so good news...
My hosting company has lost all the Manytone.com Data. Nice eh?
I have to try and rebuild the whole website from scratch. I don't even know if I have every page backed up here properly. I have to go over things now.
Just in case, if any of you guys have pages in your cache etc. it would be nice to get them from you. PM me here at KVR or email me at
manytone (at) telus (dot) net (My temp mail until manytone.com is back)
EDIT: A couple hours later - I have all the pages backed up here on my system, gonna take a while to rebuild though. End Edit
I am also seriously considering changing our host company during this process.
It looks like our Site may be down for a short while. I'll keep the progress updated here.

Paul,
i suggest you to go to
http://www.google.it/search?hl=en&q=sit ... .com&meta=
and save every "cached" version google has of your pages, so you can have back at least texts and links.

it's probably a good time to change your host, Paul, and get one that does daily/weekly backups! and if you can afford it....don't go too cheapo as typically you get what you pay for. if you like/want more control - here is a reseller host I strongly recommend that will give you personal service; the guys are awesome I can say and I get nuttin' but great service from them and impeccable uptime:manytone wrote:Hey folks

good luck...I know how it feels as I learned the hard way too!
[edited] I had originally recommeded 2 hosts, but I just love the HttpMe team, so I really should just recommend them.

Oh dear!
Sorry to hear of the problems.
www.archive.org should have older versions of your site, unless you specifically excluded it.
Try 1&1 web hosting; I've heard only good things about them, and their prices seem excellent.
Good luck!

Hi Guys
Thanks for the words.
I have most of the site backed up, I was just in a bit of a panic in my last post. Thanks for the links to other options.
About the host we had...they have been very good to us for years and they do daily backups. They are telling me though that my site was too big and when they tried to backup control panel it gave them an empty file. What a bunch of crap.
One thing for sure is it looks like all FreeZone accounts etc will have to be reissued by me once I get things rolling.
I have another webserver in place that we were just about to use as a Mirror for ManyTone and then we were going to switch over to it.
Well that move project was suppose to start this week... Now it will be a bit tougher to do without the original site in place.

A quick update
It seems I have pretty much all the pages and files here backed up on my system. So I am okay in that department.
It still appears that the customer database for ManyStation and the FreeZone is destroyed though. So customers will not be able to access those pages for some time as I will have to set up a new system.
Trying now to get a homepage up with a message about what is going on and trying to get my email back. (EDIT: both these now done)
There goes the next couple weeks.... site was 7 gig in size and will take me some time to re-upload and make active again. (Edit next day: heh...well with a little luck this should go much quicker than I thought now
)
Good thing I am at least 95% backed up here ... so much for hosts who offer a full backup daily huh?

Update Sunday Nov 25th
Well things are looking a bit better. My email now works and we have a temp homepage up explaining the problem.
I am now in the process of organizing all my backups here (with a bit of help from Gregjazz and Simon Cann....thanks guys). Then I'll start uploading the website again.
Thanks to all those who helped out in this thread and another apology to those trying to access our website. I'll get it Live as soon as I can. No estimates yet though until I see how long the data is going to take me to upload.

Update Monday Nov 26th
The ManyTone website and my mail will be down again for a short time while the new DNS pointing propagates.
We put the site on a new server and will be rebuilding it there.
Bear with us while this takes place.

Update - Monday night - before bed
Website disappeared and host lost all files including backup on Friday Nov 24 2007.
Well after one hectic weekend, it is now Monday evening and I have the website back up and live on a new server.
(Note that it is still propagating from the new server and depending where you are in the world this may take a day or so.... Let me know here in this thread if you can see us or not)
I will be continuing to upload the larger files and mp3 demo tracks tomorrow. (mp3's should be the only broken links on the live site at this point)
Not bad so far... But we have yet to test the new server.
That said...I'm done for today
(can you blame me? )

Paul,
Oh man, I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. I had a similar experience with a lightning strike that destroyed all of my computers and usb hard drives!!!
If I can be of any help to you, let me know (I know I am late as usual, but I JUST read about this).
Mike
