I'm recording vocals @ my home of different rappers and I think its time for me to move on from my current setup...I've been using a mackie 1402 vlz pro with an AKG C4000B microphone...my mixer is running into a emu 1212m soundcard...I was picking up alot of noise.It was so bad to the point I had to start recording at my friend's setup to finish a project. At first I thought it was bad settings, but after further testing, it seems its my mic...I brought my mic to his home and there was an obvious hum...Both the mic and mixer were purchased in 1999, so they are both rather old...
So i'm going to purchase an AKG perception 200 mic today...To make sure its not just the mic, i tried a cheap mic that came with my old roland on my mackie mixer...i'm not picking up the hum, but i'm still getting something that sounds like static, or popping...should i cop another mackie vlz mixer for 200 new..or should i go with like a firewire 410 or some type of interface?? i already have a decent soundcard with the emu 1212...just looking for opinions and suggestions...
