I have been looking at the Axiom 61 and the E-Mu Xboard61.
Then I though why not get the Yamaha MM6 instead and get the sounds and a self contained package.
What would be the pros and cons off doing this.
I know I won't be getting knobs and slider but I don't know how important that is.
Does the Yamaha have a better keybed than the other two I mentioned?
Keyboard midi controller or Yamaha MM6 synth?

Do you already have a software/hardware rompler ?
If not, then I would consider the Yamaha. From what I've heard, the sounds and the performance are great.
On the other hand, Xboard61 comes bundled with ProteusX, also a rompler but the sounds are not as 'fresh' as those from the Yamaha.
Keyboard action is very good on Xboard61, it even has aftertouch. In the store, when looking to replace my Triton keyboard, I compared it with the keyboard action of the Roland Juno-G (or -D?) and it was equal, while at the same time being priced much lower.

a few hours orientation, will likely be your first choice for fun and useful new sounds.
The many arp options and percussion sets will be very useful, too. I would get the Yamaha,
and then save for 60-90 days, and get the xboard also. You can for example, quickly
pick a drum style, tempo, and volume
track1 layer an organ and an EP, each with diferent modulations,
track2 make a lead layer with a tenor sax and flute
track3 throw a nice distortion on a jazz guitar
track4 have an arp play your bassline,
track5 layer some vocal pads for ambience.
Then just add your hit song, stir, and mix!
A caveat to the xboard is you need a powerful computer to use proteusX, and some
people have mobo/chipset/windoze issues,(know the returns policy!)but if you control other hardware synths, that's not a factor, most folks like the keys and knob-twisting.
The axiom I have never used, so cannot comment on it.
