While I know that Rhino is not supposed to be a DX7 clone, it seems to me that the DX7 import could be improved.
I downloaded a bunch of sysexes from this page: http://www.maths.abdn.ac.uk/~bensondj/html/dx7.html ... I imported the sysex called rhodes1.syx and got a lot of static. I loaded some of the factory patches from rom1b.syx and had a lot static and distortion on about half of the patches in that bank that I tried, in particular PIPES 4, CALIOPE, ACCORDIAN, SITAR, GUITAR 6 and LUTE.
What I have noticed is that all of the oscillators in the matrix are set to one of two values. If you draw a line in the matrix, everything in the lower left corner has the same value and is controlled by the FM Amount slider, while the few that are in the upper right half also have the same amount and are adjusted by the Feedback slider.
I don't have any way of verifying what these modulation amounts should be, but it doesn't seem right to me that they would all be set to the same value in every patch.
Also the modulation amounts seem a little high to me. It's almost as if the dx7 patches have a range of 0-127 while Rhino uses a range of 0-100. I've noticed that dialing back some of the modulation amounts tends to give a usable sound.

Thanks for looking at this so quickly.
I checked back and saw that the CALIOPE sounded OK. I am sorry for listing those among the problem patches for me. However, GUITAR 6 and LUTE still have a high noise to signal ratio.
