toneport questions

I'm thinking of picking up the line 6 toneport GX or maybe the UX1 and had some questions. Bit confused about the gearbox software that comes with it. I was reading that the vst version of gearbox is sold seperately. Does that mean you can only jam with it and not actually record in your chosen sequencer? Also can you hook up through the toneport and play through guitar rig/amplitube? Hmmmm so can you get low latency recording and playback while other non guitar tracks are on my main sound card? Git center has the GX for $69, seems like a good deal!
thanks,

No Gearbox sets up as a layer between the input and the ASIO audio source. Everything coming in the input goes through Gearbox if it's on.
Yes, see above...mitchell_ wrote:Also can you hook up through the toneport and play through guitar rig/amplitube?

Maybe... Maybe not.
I think it's got mini-plugs but $69 is still a steal for what you get. If I didn't have a UX2 I'd get a UX1.mitchell_ wrote:Git center has the GX for $69, seems like a good deal!

BTW the VST version is cool because ... well it's a VST but not for that kind of money. It doesn't offer anything Gearbox doesn't have and unlike gearbox it needs host automation. I got it on sale or I wouldn't have it.

Thanks for the answers tomg, exactly what i wanted to hear. hmm the gx has one 1/4" in. wondering if i really need the xlr input of the UX1, seeing i already have 2 on my emu 1820. but i have heard good things on using it for vocals. in regards to tom, do you get much use out of its vocal presets and the xlr in? just saw it comes with a line 6 version of ableton live lite that might seal the deal on the ux1.
