I believe my Alesis RA-100 amp may be dying. When I turned it on this morning, the right side is barely audable, even when I turn the volumn all the way up.

So I am curious about replacements? This was a good amp for me, and it lasted almost 15 years. My monitors are old alesis monitor ones. I realize that I can get updated powered monitors, and all that. But I'm wondering if anyone has advice on amps?

I guess that replacement is the RA-150 for $199.00 (us). Any other options?

In most cases that's either a dodgy connection that came loose, or a $0.10 part that's fried. I'd try to get it serviced, although that would cost over $50 if you hand it to a professional. You could open the cover and see what you can do yourself...

Hifi amps from the nineties are great. Not much coloration in the sound and built like a tank. Any ole model with 50 to 100 watts should do the job reasonably well. Ask friends or family weather they have a spare amp or receiver in working order that became obsolete.

I was able to fix my RA-100. it was a loose wire.

But I think the idea about picking up an old amp is genius! I'm going to ask around. It would provide a good spare.

Keep your eyes open for a used (they are no longer made) Hafler P1500 or P3000. These are amazingly transparent, clean power for the studio. I have one that I use on my NS-10's (that go everywhere with me) that's probably 10 years old and takes the abuse of being flown and trucked around the world with never any problems.
