I'd been wanting a Zendrum for years now, since AFAIK, nothing else on the market gives you such sensitive pads for drumming--you can easily do drum rolls, flams...etc in ways clumsy rubber pad controllers like PadKontrol, Trigger Finger...etc cannot come even close. Problem is, it's $1,500--not exactly cheap.
I already have a Ddrum 4 system I use for kit drumming, and I've been programming drums via keyboard for many years, but always felt restricted by it since it's very hard to do drum rolls or 32 notes on keys unless you remap the drum map, and then lay the sound you need out onto two separate keys so you don't have to deal with one single key bouncing back. The Zendrum seems like the answer to my problem, but I just want to make sure there aren't any cheaper alternatives I can check out before plopping down $1,500 for one.

There aren't any.
But you picked a decent time to buy one, they finally made a desktop unit which is available as of a couple days ago. It comes in at $1000, so a fair bit cheaper than their previous stuff.

OMG, I was just on their site earlier yesterday and that new desktop unit wasn't even up on their site yet. Mmmmmmm.
