Looks like samples. Samples...isn't there anything better than damn samples?
Looks like either WIVI, or a new Reaktor ensemble just released in the user library called Silverwood, is going to blow samples out of the water. Silverwood is great, it's waveguide-based synthesis and it sounds amazing, most of the sounds are very believable! It's also free, so there's no arguing about price points, all you need is Reaktor and that comes with a whole heap of amazing ensembles.

Yes, it uses samples.benjamind wrote:Looks like samples. Samples...isn't there anything better than damn samples?
Believe it or not despite the EVANGELISM of the PM crowd, there are still some of us that have use for these.
But you don't see us trying to push them down the throats of the synthesis crowds, do you?
Or see us jumping onto sample developer's announcement threads to tell them that they are obsolete either, do you?

Hi everyone!benjamind wrote:Looks like samples. Samples...isn't there anything better than damn samples?
I just wanted to join the discussion! The Mojo Horn library is based on samples, yes, but it's powered by more than 20000 lines of Kontakt Scripting (which i did - so i know what i speak of . Belive me: it's not just another "sampled" library. The main goal in the scripting part of this library was to achive a maximimum possible realism with as less effort as possible from the user to achive this goal. Exactly the same applys to BASiS and Elite Orchestral Percussion.
You definitly should check it out on NAMM!

Hey dynamitec,
Well I'm looking forward to checking out mojo.
I can't wait to hear what they sound like.
I will have to take your word on how playable they are, because sadly I cannot make NAMM. But 20,000 lines of KSP coding is pretty serious.
Oh and the work you did on Basis also sounds good (judging from the Basis demo videos). Even though bass is not my thing.
Have a good one,
Ben H

Hi and welcome. Fish, big or small, are nearly always appropriate at KVR.
@M4M: Link disabling's not a mod function, it's the forum software that does it. But I (and anyone else who's past the minimum number of posts) can quote the OP and get working links that way:

thanks! But i want to add: i only did the scripting part - vir2 is developing and creating those instruments!
Edit:
It seems that vir2 spends very much time and takes very much care in exactly this point! And i completely agree with them: It's essential that a library not only sounds great, it's also important that it *doesn't* take ages to learn the concept or to achive good results. I think the best concept is: load a instrument and start to play! Of course you won't know all possibilities in the beginning but you will easily learn what you really need. And you won't have to learn things, you'll maybe never need or use - just to get started!ben_horwood wrote:I will have to take your word on how playable they are

I see sometime in the future PM synths being realistic enough across the board really starting to replace the absolute need for samples. I don't see that happening for at least 5 years still though. Things are coming along very well, but there are so many instruments to model. Some things are so complex, such as guitar, in its expressiveness, it almost seems pointless, because that would rely on a special controller, which would be... a guitar! So....ben_horwood wrote:Yes, it uses samples.benjamind wrote:Looks like samples. Samples...isn't there anything better than damn samples?

The new percussion library looks interesting at least.

Yep, I am clear about that, that's why I made the comment about the scripting.dynamitec wrote:Hi Ben H,

I just thought that I would also mention that it SOUNDS pretty good too.
So do I DevonB, I am not against PM or any synthesis per seDevonB wrote:I see sometime in the future PM synths being realistic enough across the board really starting to replace the absolute need for samples.
In fact one of my favourite instruments ATM is WIVI
And also one of my biggest interests of the NAMM products announced is actually the new Samplemodeling Trumpet
What I do not like though is the dismissive attitude that some people seem to take towards sample based instruments these days. It is a kind of almost religious type of fanatacism, where they will jump in to any thread, announcement or discussion to "preach" their synthesis.
I was simply saying that samples still have their place in music making, and that not everybody wants to "convert".
And my last clarification, I do not believe that there is any harm in discussing alternatives. Heck this place is a forum for lively discussion and debate.
I just think that the way that BigFish's product announcement thread was seized upon was rather rude.
Anyway to BigFish and dynamitec, I wish you all well with your products.
