I think I had a good & fortunate thing happen to me this weekend. I found (in cleaning out my studio) 2 sets of sample libraries, by SoundScan (Acoustic Guitars & Acoustic Pianos). I had purchased these two years ago, but my old machine wasn't powerful enough to do the sample player/library thing. Now, w/ the new box...it is...& I've also added Kontakt 3 to my arsenal.

So...the samples come in all the assorted flavors...wav, aiff, Acid, Halion, Reason2 & ESX24. I'm pretty sure Kontakt can handle the playing end OK, but which format should I choose to be most compatible?

I remember seeing somewhere in the K3 manual a description on how well Kontakt imports the various formats. I haven't worked that much with importing different formats yet, but I doubt you can avoid doing a bit of modifying to each of the instruments after importing them.

Yeah...guess I'll read (shoulda done that 1st, I suppose). I actually thought I'd be OK w/ .wav, tho.

I think I'd take a shot at importing the Halion ones first, see how that works.If no good, I'd try importing the ESX24 ones.

I'd try importing the Halion ones as well; I've had good luck with Halion imports.
However, they must be Halion 1 or 2; K3 doesn't do Halion 3 imports because H3 uses encrypted files for its instruments.

OK...

Had a look at the manual last nite. There aren't any real import directions, to speak of...but WAV & AIFF are listed under File formats; & HALION & ESX24 are listed under Software formats.

So then...what's the advantage of importing a 'software' format, as opposed to a 'file' format? (as suggested by Bob Nova & ew).

Importing wav and aiff will add the individual samples to an instrument in Kontakt, but you wont get the whole instrument with complete setup of layers, releasesamples, keytriggers etc. Importing Halion, EXS24 etc. will give you that (to some extend). Depending on the type of instruments that you plan on importing this can be important.

If you haven't done this already, I've had great success importing EXS file into Kontakt2.
