hi all,

does anyone have a decent collection of ride hits they'd share, or a link to a freebie set.

i'd even pay (to a certain point), but i don't want a full blown drum kit, just plenty of rides.

Depending on your definition of decent, I'd recommend the ns_kit 7 free. I love the ride and since it is wavs, you can just take the rides out and ditch the rest.
Also there are some sets of just rides for around $4.00 each at http://www.drumwerks.com/store.html

have you tried also the yppse stuff from kara-moon site and G&S CW drumkits, that many times are quoted here on threads?
i'm almost sure you should be able to find some good sounds in there

Yeah, check out ns_kit7, if you like really clean, precise, pingy rides.

why doesn't anyone include washy edge-hit rides???? well, except the commercial version of ns7, for which I'm eternally grateful.

cymbals, IMHO are so hard to make. Its tons of layering, verb, fx, sampling, eq. I like my cymbals to have an unreal and effected vibe. A really out there feel. I am going to share three for anybody who wants to check them out. I know, only three, but this took me about an hour of sampling, layering and eq.

These should work well in modern dance. Enjoy

Oh...I thought ya meant like riding cymbals. Ya know, instead of using a sled or something. We used our cafeteria trays in school for an unexpected freeze. They were actually more fun. Although, the cymbals might be dangerous- yikes!

nskit seems to be the general consensus and having checked it out they are not bad. combined with the ones in battery's library and some other odds and sods on the t'interweb i've cobbled together 3 ride hits bell/big/small.

not hugely convincing though, even using the humanise and articulation options in battery, looks like i'll be best served by pough's suggestion, but it's a wip song and i'm impatient.

as stk says, there seems to be a lack of samples of washy ride hits which, (as i'm looking to create jazzy organic patterns) are kind of necessary. most samples seem to be tip of the stick "pings" with varying lengths of decay. i've just downloaded a few brush ride samples from freesound so they might help out a bit there... hopefully.

still hoping someone comes along and say "here's a variety of jazzy ride hits for you to save you doing loads of editing and layering to get what you want, because you're basically a lazy b*stard and just want to write a cool ride pattern for your latest tune"

a man can dream eh...

well, hmmm, nobody said anything about jazz in their original post. so you wound up with 3, clever dance ones.

if you are looking to remove ping, use a long attack. Download the free Flux bittersweet plug in. and scoop the mids on your bottom layer. cut lows on your top layer, and boost highs. should take about 2 different rides make a great jazz,

On the wave sampler I linked in this thread, I have used PSP audioware plug ins. specifically mix pack. as well as mackies final mix for some super eq.

its a trippy sampler, sorry you did snot mention jazz

Exactly what I need them for, too.
I've had success layering standard 'tip' ride hits with detuned crash cymbal hits, and softening the attack on both. With a bit of trial and error you can get a pretty convincing washy, jazzy ride.

sorry, my fault. i was after as many as i could get and forgot to be specific.

the problem is, as soon as you start to process things, be it using a transient shaper, imposing a volume envelope or eq-ing, you start to loose some "fairy dust", which you then have to work hard to fake back in and kills the character of the ride you liked originally. a "pinged" ride with a longer attack and some altered dynamics is not the same as a splashy ride played by a decent jazzy drummer. i wish it were.

i've been experimenting tonight though with a load of samples (and most of the stuff you mentioned) and i'm close to an ok level

should take about 2 different rides make a great jazz ride

you have magic fingers then cos i have ~25 samples making up my 3 hits so far

cool, as i said in the post above, i'm getting closer. imposing an envelope is causing me some problems with the sound as i can't seem to get it natural enough. perhaps i'm just being picky now

must try the crash layer, got some decent brush crashes and splashes that might work ok there.

for now, it's bedtime.

Did you check VA Drums? (sound demos on that page).
Also I know there's a great Akai library called something like Master Jazz Drums, but a quick google didn't show much so that's not much of help I guess.
