Does anyone own a Roland VG-99?
I would love to hear some opinions on it, as I may be in the market to get one.
How do the electric and acoustic models sound?
how is the tracking?
most important, how do the alternate tunings sound?... are there any noticeable artifacts?

I have not been able to demo this unit yet, so any feedback is appreciated.

It's pretty much the best guitar synth there is, so if you want a guitar synth, I don't think you can go wrong with it. Nothing has as many features. You can get all info on it from here. Audio demos of the earlier VG-88 and VG-8 here.

Tried it at a friends studio (I have a GR-33) using my Brian Moore and Chapman Stick, and it's great for playing guitar/bass sounds with alternate tunings and such, with all the amp setups, etc. HOWEVER, and this has been confirmed on other forums, I found the external MIDI control to be pretty poor. Lots of latency and freaky triggered notes.

The internal 'synths' in VG-99 are actually modeled emulations of early Roland synths (IMO), and you would have to spend a lot of time creating synth type patches.

The tracking IS very good for it's internal sounds, and I like the smaller, lighter-weight case.

Overall very good, but I would prefer that it could drive soft-synths, or external hard-synths better, as this lack of external MIDI was one main reason I didn't buy the VG-88.
